So I've just enrolled in Kaiser's healthy eating class that I did to lose weight a year ago when I dropped down to two hundred pounds. I've basically kept it off by keeping to a few guidelines.
The first class of this year's class was Tuesday, 1/3. Since then I've been tracking everything I eat and making sure I keep to a calorie count which should allow me to drop two pounds/week. Fully clothed, I weighted in the first night at 205.2 pounds but 202 buck naked at home. It is a pain in the ass to record each thing. Like this morning I had a cup of steel cut oatmeal (cooked) and a quarter cup each of mango, raspberries, blueberries and walnuts. All of that has to be recorded and breakfast totaled 399 calories.
For lunch I had one hot dog, cut in half on an angle and each side on one slice of Dave's thin sliced good seed bread (thank you Portland) and dressed with mustard, onion, one slice of Clausen bread and butter pickle sandwich slice and half a slice of Jalapeño jack washed down with a diet coke. In addition I had ten salted macadamia nuts which my stepson and his gf brought us back from Hawaii, an ounce of them is 200 damn calories! Lunch totaled 622 calories.
Dinner was half a Trader Joe's classic greek salad (made with about 3/4 of the dressing), 3 ounces of guacamole I made myself with just lemon juice and chili powder along with a dozen Blue Dimond nut thins. For dessert I got one Mochi mango ice cream dessert. Total for dinner = 479 calories.
For snacks today I had two Belvita blueberry cookies with a cup of tea (w/ splash of half&half) twice, once in the morning and once in the afternoon. Also had three tiny little chocolate truffles they brought back from Hawaii. Oh, and when I woke up too early I had a cup of an herbal tea (no cream) and three Trader Joe's meyer lemon wafer cookies. Total calories for snacks = 398.
So today's 1898 calories came in 12 calories under my daily allotment. Frankly it doesn't feel like I'm going without all that much. Of course, all those Hawaiian snacks made it tougher. Yesterday I came in 200 calories lower. My wife by contrast has to make do with about 1500 calories a day. That would be tough. My goal for the week is to come in under budget every day and record every calorie. I'll let you know how I do at next Tuesday's weigh-in. I'll probably stop recording everything after a couple of weeks if I lose at least 4 pounds. By then my intuitive sense of what and how much to eat should be pretty good. Really, the only difference between losing weight mode and maintaining weight mode for me is the tight control on the snacks.
Fucking outstanding, girl! Missed your necro at the time. V. good news indeed. Hope you came through the holidays okay and are still feeling good.
Ten pounds in a month and a half is epic! Have you been able to keep it off? When you're ready you'll take another step.
