I can cover a group of five shots at 50 feet with a dime and leave change. That's shooting in the bench rest position. I expect to improve with the newer equipment. I haven't shot my gun in nearly 2 years because of the exorbitant cost of ammunition.
When I was 11, I could shoot a .22 within a dime at 20 yards in prone, sitting, kneeling and standing positions (standing didn't always do that well). Closed sights, no bag. You use your own body to rest the elbows, and learn to time the squeeze for when any swaying goes right across the center. There were some days when I had no shakes. I could just hold right on the target and squeeze. That was very rare.
I grew up at a range. My dad was the range officer. I stopped around age 11 and have only shot a couple of times since.
