So Cola who you met earlier this month when he arrived from Korea after being treated for heartworm in Seoul tested positive for it. Several of our vet partners told us that it was too soon after treatment to test him including the one who ran the test and that we were getting a false positive. The dogs' body needs time to clean out the "debris." Since we have two more heartworm dogs in the pipeline we decided to have an echocardiogram done to see if it was an active case or not.
It was done this afternoon and it was fascinating. First off this dog had 3 of our volunteers there, his new owner, two vet techs, and the cardiologist. Cola, now named Kodi, had a posse walking into the examining room! The doc narrated the whole procedure while we took turns keeping Kodi still on the table as he was not thrilled with the whole process. His heart was clear and not enlarged and his pulmonary arteries, where heart worms hang out, were clear. So it would appear that he is fine and our arrangement with Korea works.
