You're right of course about their ability to read character. My wife's brother is afraid of dogs but tries to come off as dominant to mine - disregarding my advice entirely. The first time he met Heidi he first called her over to him. But when she held back he raised his voice insisting that she come here. She has never trusted him since then and she does not forget.
