She was just that old. She couldn't stand for long and I had to cover the couch with plastic and puppy pads. She'd literally stand, pee or poop then lay back down. She licked liquid food off a spoon. I just couldn't watch her suffer anymore. She lived a good life but it was time to let her go. That was 7 years ago and it still hurts. She was with me nearly my entire adult life. She went through two marriages with me, two kids, buying a house, buying my first new car... just lots of firsts in my life.
This one, Ebby, was hard too. My oldest turns 24 on Sunday and I haven't seen her for four years. Ebby was her cat and was the last thing I had to hold on to that was my daughter's. And you know, every time I lose a pet, I say to myself that I'm not going to get another one. I'm just not going to do it. Three years ago, the brothers, Dill and Pickles popped into our lives. You'd think after doing this so many times that I'd learn a lesson. Nope... I am still a sucker for cuteness.
I get it. After I lost Chopper (he was young and died in his sleep) I got Ziggy. It was discussed that if we lost another of our dogs we wouldn't get another. Then when we had to have Lady put down six months later the humans and the animals in the house were lost...so a few months later I got Quinn. I say there will never be any more...but I don't know if that will be the case.
