But if they were devoid of morality wouldn't they attack other piranhas even when they're not bleeding? What you are describing is an instinct reaction toward the blood which is stronger than their moral senses.
Even humans can have instincts stronger than their moral senses. Like Folie a deux - which is an psychiatric syndrome in which delusional beliefs are transmitted from one person to another that they even kill other people because of mass hysteria.
