I've alway found Catholics rather laughable too. (until the recent catastrophic scandals)
To put it into better perspective, jesus is considered to be an idol in Judaism. One must never say an idol's name in a way that would make it seem that the idol is a deity. And one would never ever say that name while holding a Torah scroll. It's probably roughly equivalent with a Catholic priest standing at his pulpit with a bible in hand, and summoning satan. The incident that I related happened in an Orthodox shul where you wouldn't expect something like that could ever happen.
I understood the context. However, wasn't aware of how Jesus is seen by orthodox Jewry.
Makes perfect sense ; Jesus' followers claimed he was the son of G-d and worshipped him. For that reason alone he was obviously not the Moshiach.. Mr understanding is that the Moshiach will be a warrior priest in the Davidic tradition , will not be divine, and will not die prematurely --That before you get anywhere near ushering in a period of world peace.
The most appropriate word I can think of to describe Christian claims that Jesus was the messiah is "chutzpah".
