I cut out soda, fruit juices except coconut water, and while I’m not militant about it, I try to limit my sweets. If I want something sweet, I’ll try to reach for nature’s candy, some fruit, instead of candy. I’ve lost several pounds and feel much better. Just gotta exercise more, otherwise I’m healthier than I’ve been in a while! I still treat myself to chocolate or icecream, but ever since I’ve started these dietary changes, the urge to eat things that are sugary and full of empty calories has waned tremendously. Too much will even make me feel sick!
I think we as a society need to learn to limit ourselves, and recognize just how addictive sugar is. As the ol’ saying goes, moderation is key!
Sugar is such a huge problem and so fucking addictive I hate it. However, I force myself to drink pop in moderation. I love Coca-Cola and I doubt I'll ever stop drinking it, but I have to limit myself to a couple cans a week. Then again, I also drink a gallon of water a day, so I view the Coke as a reward for staying hydrated and generally eating healthily.
Salt and fat aren't that big of a deal either, in my opinion, if you're eating right. There are varying views on the issue but I think the most important thing to focus on is calories eaten versus calories burned. Eat healthy foods and exercise daily no matter what. Even if you don't exercise, just get good, healthy, whole foods into your body every day. Eggs, spinach, chicken, seafood, maybe some red meat here and there. Bread and pastas are the hardest things to avoid for me. It's just carbs and sugar: totally terrible for you. But, like I said there are so many varying views on food and nutrition and diet that I think each person just have to find what works for them, which can be tough.
And that's the thing, I get it. Food is addictive, and it's honestly hard to kick bad food habits. I used to be a heavy set guy. I chose to lose the weight. Doesn't make me better than anyone; the point is if I can do it anyone can. It's a choice. And honestly, I had to deal with a lot of my issues with depression before I could get the energy to get up and start working out. But once I started working out, I felt even better. That's the thing, if you choose to lose the weight, you'll feel better, look better and have a better life, nine times out of ten. I wish more people would see this as a positive message rather than an attempt at "shaming" fat people.
That doesn't mean, however, that we shouldn't discuss or expose the problems around the obesity epidemic and it certainly doesn't mean we should say it's okay to be obese. It is okay in that if you want to make that life choice and risk heart disease, diabetes, cancer, bone & joint disease and high blood pressure, then fine. It's your life, do what you want to yourself. But realize and accept the fact that you are doing something bad to your body and we shouldn't be crucified for discussing that.
If you're frightened of dying, and you're holding on, you'll see devils tearing your life away. But if you've made your peace, then the devils are really angels, freeing you from the Earth.
