All parents influence their children. We're their formative and most lasting influence. It's not entirely certain at what point parenting isn't an indoctrination. We expect parents to indoctrinate their children, and fault them for failure to do so, both socially and legally.
Like so many other issues in parenting it's a catch 22, because if you succeed at doing the thing we positively expect, and will punish you for failure to do, we'll then fault you for that as well, lol.
