I used to post on Quora frequently. Because of their algorithm, I got tons of questions about atheism and atheists. Over and over, I explained that atheism is just the state of mind were you don't hold a belief that any God or gods is/are real; and atheists are people in that state of mind. There's nothing more to it, although atheists vary greatly in their degree of certainty.
Given a good set of rules for moral behavior, atheism adds nothing to them. It doesn't justifify them or make them better. And most atheists I know can't reasonably be described as 'people of faith' or 'crusaders' and many would actually object to those terms being applied to them. This idea, however noble, is a non-starter.
