Every undergraduate psychology student is aware of both the role of culture and the function of statistics. Nothing is black and white; everything is bell curves.
When research suggests males are far more physically aggressive than females, and are responsible for more crimes, you as a reader should already expect mild cultural variance, and at the very least not conclude that women are incapable of aggression or less terrible crimes.
Now read my comment again—which is primarily a critique on the limits of drawing psychological inferences from archeological data, specially when actual experimental research exists (see Ostrov, 2004):
"There's is research on aggression and statistics on violence. We know men and women differ on this front. Whatever limited inferences can be made from spears and skulls is subservient to this data."
