Ten Reasons I'm Not a Christian
#51
RE: Ten Reasons I'm Not a Christian
Special pleading, martyr complex, and probably whole bushel of other stuff as well. I was going to attempt a point-by-point dissection but then I got to this:

Quote:6 - You laugh at Hindu beliefs that deify humans, and Greek claims about gods sleeping with women, but you have no problem believing that the Holy Spirit impregnated Mary, who then gave birth to a man-god who got killed, came back to life and then ascended into the sky.

I don't take them seriously because they aren't historically and scientifically backed like my bible is.

and suddenly saw the futility of trying to piss into the wind.
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist.  This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair.  Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second.  That means there's a situation vacant.'

You said you would talk about the reasons why you're not a christian, but you made a hypothetical list of things that you attribute to some other group(s) of people(s) to explain to us why you're no christian?
I think that this list isn't really reflective on why *you* are not a christian.

I have and need only ONE reason why I am no longer a christian - when you consider all of the claims of the religion - there are so many errors, impossibilities - and contradictions - that it simply CANNOT be true =period.

I was once taught that the bible is the PERFECT INERRANT inspired word of god by several nuns in catholic school. IT was a nun in Science Class in High School that proved that to be wrong - after pointing out many many things in it that CANNOT be true.

Lets see - Genesis is Historically and scientifically proven WRONG
THe great Flood NEVER happened- and that is proven by the successive Pharaohs in Egypt unstopped by such a flood.
THERE is no support for the fables of moses - bondage at that time with egypt - or the wandering in the desert
THe story of Jericho has been established to be wrong as well

Bethlehem was not a city at the time claimed
THe Romans did not crucify thieves - they sent them to the lions. THey only crucified traitors - and direct threats to the state.

THe story of the christ is filled with holes - among those that it is scientifically nonsense as well. IF a god HAD impregnated Mary - the result would have been a female - there is NO HUMAN Y chromosome in the mix.
If we assume a god would have to be a different species than a human - then the result of the mixed procreation would NOT have been a human - but a MUTT of the two different species - like a MULE.

And no one saw the ressurection of the christ - even in the bible - there is NO eye witness to such an event - why would a god go through all that preparation - and not have any witnesses to it?

Now, be fair Thom. There is the gospel of "peter" which does recount the resurrection....with a giant talking cross.

It was too stupid even for early xtian propagandists to put in their bible.

Quote:[39] And while they were relating what they had seen, again they see three males who have come out from they sepulcher, with the two supporting the other one, and a cross following them, [40] and the head of the two reaching unto heaven, but that of the one being led out by a hand by them going beyond the heavens. [41] And they were hearing a voice from the heavens saying, 'Have you made proclamation to the fallen-asleep?' [42] And an obeisance was heard from the cross, 'Yes.'

At least the early church had the good sense to be embarrassed by such abject shit....which is more than can be said for modern fundie morons!

Oh - I am being fair

However - even in Peter - there is NO eye witness to the resurrection fable.

When the women went to the burial site - the christ was NOT THERE.

And there is NO such thing in reality as a giant talking cross as well

Since the the christ was a MYTH that cannot be true - based on all the contradicting claims of the bible alone - the idea that ANY part of the bible recounts an actual resurrection is simply laughable - it is just another part of the myth - as handed down over the year from other religions.

SOrry - but that link goes to a site that is easily dismissed as nionsense

It's biggest question is whether an atheist can make a better universe than god has -

However - since there is NO proof that a god exists to have made a universe to begin with - there is NO reason to even listen to the claims.

WE KNOW that the universe of the christian god - as described in genesis in the bible is FALSE -

OUr universe is billions of years old - not thousands. OUR earth is a sphere - not a flat circle - stationary and built on pillars. IN our universe - our earth is in constant motion - both spinning on its axis AND orbiting the sun - among other movement (THE solar system is also moving together as well)

So - Until YOU can provide an example of a UNIVERSE you can PROVE a god created - and OURS is clearly NOT such an example - your claim makes the same tired and stupid assumption - that a god does exist and has done something. ANd that is simply not supported by YOU.

Some English translations of the bible say it was from dirt Adam came. Some other translations use the word dust. The language that Genesis was written in uses a word to describe the source of Adam's creation which has no equivalent in English. It may even be the case that the word used in the original language is itself not even close to describing what God actually used to form Adam. What if God actually used raw elements that he drew atom-by-atom from the ground? Try describing that in a language that has no scientific vocabulary or concepts.

A spaceman came travelling...

What if, yes what if, God was an ET with mega-advanced technology. This ET-God abducts Mary one night while she's asleep. He uses IVF technology to grab one of her eggs. He fertilizes it with one of his ET-Godlike super-sperm (dont ask me how he got his hands on that). And then implants the whole thing back in Mary's womb.

Sometime later, while Mary's out shopping or something, ET-God shows up posing as an angel and tells Mary she is with child. Hey presto! Virgin birth! End to the mistranslation dispute.

Next thing you know, Chris de Burgh has a number 1 Christmas hit.

I'm off to Nitpickers Anonymous in a minute (I've been going for years), but all you need to know to be a Christian is that Jesus died to redeem you and all you have to do to accept his ransom sacrifice is to say: "Yes please I'll have some of that. Thanks very much." You dont even have to read the bible for that, cos pretty much everybody knows that anyway. Even atheists, right? And you dont even have to say "please" and "thanks", but being well-mannered will take you far.

People who know tons and tons of stuff about the bible are, technically, theologians.
The interesting thing about Truth is that Truth is still Truth even if the devil speaks it. The interesting thing about Lies is that Lies are still Lies even if God speaks them.
