Anxiety/Depression/Mental Illness Support
RE: Anxiety/Depression/Mental Illness Support
I was diagnosed with an Autism Spectrum Disorder at an early age.
I spent nine years in a grade school which encouraged bullying, and this has eventually given me Depression and anxiety (which my psychologist says might be PTSD.) I have never made a real attempt at suicide, but I have considered it, but my very rational nature ended up keeping me alive, due to the fear that I actually might survive my suicide attempt. To any fans of Preacher, Arseface has probably done more to keep me alive than anything else in the eight years between graduation and my starting to actually go through treatment.

I'm currently on Viibryd and Abilify, but when I see my psychiatrist on Tuesday, I may try to get off the Abilify; I'm worried about the possibility of weight gain in relation to my family's history of diabetes, it induces drowsiness at unpredictable intervals, and I'm not sure if it's working (even if it is supposed to take three more weeks to kick in.)

I'm the same way about suicide. I have what are called "intrusive thoughts." I don't actually want to do any of what pops in. It's mostly scary stuff.

HUmm is being an asshole a disorder?!? Its quite strange I find that I get a lot of laughs at work somtimes at others exspence or even mine (if its funny or shocking it goes from brain to mouth NO FILTER) so my out of work friends include my wife and well thats pretty much it .... What a fuct up mix I like to be center of attention but at the same time I'm anti social Smile found a comedian that kind of reminds me of me (Doug Stanhope) and yes he an asshole too Smile
Did I make a good point? thumbs up Smile I cant help it I'm a Kudos whore. P.S. Jesus is a MYTH.

I'm psyched that you have a good therapist and I hope you work up the nerve to do CBT. It really is the best treatment for anxiety. I kind of do it for myself as much as possible. Yes, it does involve a lot of anxiety and all of us who suffer from it are terrified of attacks and avoid them as much as possible. However, with CBT, you are handling it in a controlled way. It really might make a huge difference for you. Please keep us updated.

Yeah I kinda do my own CBT as well. Not by choice, but necessity. I am very paranoid because of a violent home invasion attempt a couple years ago, so when I'm in the rough areas I get very paranoid that something will happen--and I work 3rd shift in a rough area.

After the attempted break in, I went out and bought a 9mm pistol. I go shoot fairly regularly, and just a couple months ago got my CCW permit so I can carry it on me. It's amazing how much it has helped my anxiety just knowing that if I'm caught in a situation where I need to defend myself that I can have it on me to do so. I hope I never have to, but it helps to know that if a dude pulls a gun on me it'll be a level playing field.
RE: Anxiety/Depression/Mental Illness Support
Yeah, my anxiety is different in that I don't like to be around guns too much. I go to the range and stuff, but I would never carry one.

I was like that with mine at first, but after owning it for a while and becoming familiar with it, I got used to it. I carry with an empty chamber so there's no chance of an accidental discharge cuz my wife doesn't like me even owning a gun much less carrying it, but she was there when the break in attempt happened so she understands my reasons.

I think the term you are looking for is open books, which implies anyone can learn about us. Open door implies that anyone can enter us. That is not the case. Tongue

There is nothing wrong with opening up to people. I assure you, though, I don't talk about everything. Not even close.
