Whatever you may think of Rand Paul...

Why would someone want to hurt their business by not allowing someone based on a belief or color or anything else that is arbitrary. It is not logical or rational in any sense. So why would/did people do it?

Because they're idiots. Since when did people let being an idiot get in the way of doing something stupid? It may not be logical or rational, but it has happened. Just look at the history of the US back in the 1950's and 60's. If I wanted to be racist and put up a "Whites only" sign at my business (assuming it was legal to do so), I could get away with it because I live in a town with very few minorities. I do understand as a businessman why I don't want to turn people away based on skin color, but then again I'm not a rabid racist who can't stand to be in the company of someone with different skin color. Other people may think differently.

Quote:(Hypothetical) Do people in Oklahoma have a problem with Muslims coming into their store and terrorizing them? Is it because that Oklahoma guy has met hundreds of Muslims and every single one of them fucked him over some how? I doubt it.

Do Oklahomans have problems with Muslims forcing Sharia law into their courts? I doubt it, but that didn't stop them from passing a law making it illegal to do so.

Quote:The government can't dictate morality only the people can. And the people of the community can decide the shop owners fate in Oklahoma, not bureaucrats sitting in Washington trying to push a certain agenda.

I would agree with you if not for the fact that I've seen how the "good ol' boy" system works in towns like the one I live in. It's like the rev here pointed out, a black family in a town of racist whites is going to have a hard time of it if they all band together and refuse to do business with them. Do you think the other racist whites are going to stop doing business in that town because one black family isn't allowed to shop there?

And then you have to also consider not black customers, but what happens in a store with "whites only" on the front when a black man comes looking for a job? You think he's going to find gainful employment anywhere? If we get rid of all EEO laws then we'll be free to discriminate against people based on race, religion, or gender when it comes to hiring or equal pay. Do you think it'd be right for an employer to pay a black employee 1/3rd the pay of a white employee doing the same job? After all, it's his property, his business, so he should be able to do what he wants with it.

one more modern example of racism in America today

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qFCm5RwWr...lf=g-all-a

This is a public official saying shit like this. Its one thing if he went down a list and said "and by the way, I love tacos" as something humorous. But this wasnt about THAT kind of humor. It was meant to be insulting, as the aid in the background laughed as well..

And Adrian wants to allow these people, who own businesses mind you, to be able to hire and fire based solely on race merely because "it is their property rights". Yes Adrian. If you argue for "whites only" signs, then you also argue that this man deserves the right to hire people based solely upon his racist inclinations.

DISGUSTING!

I just don't know why some people want to turn back the clock 50 years with regards to racial equality. Well, I guess there's one reason.

Bingo. Its obvious that Adrian is an Idealist and rather naive on his approach to race relations, especially in America. Gladly many of us Americans have progressed past the view that Adrian is suggesting. not ALL of us, but enough to make equal rights a political reality.

How about a "whites only" hospital Adrian? I guess the blacks will just be dying on the lawn, or at least until the cops come to throw them in jail for trespassing.

Adrian is driving down the road in alabama and gets in a car wreck. The closest hospital is 10 minutes away. Sadly for him, it is "non-whites only" and they flat out refuse to accept him as a patient for any reason. The closest hospital to accept him as a patient happens to be an hour away.

Congratulations Adrian, your right wing views just killed you.

And in a scenereo like this, that "non-whites only" hospital has every right to turn you away. Nor can you claim that they killed you or even allowed you to die. Its not your right to be treated by them in your own words, and if you beg them to help you then they have the right to have you arrested and hauled off into jail.

Heres a good one, because I know how much you right wing libertarians LOVE contracts:

A pharmaceutical corporation finally discovers a cure for cancer! The person who owns 51% of the stock insists that his product (which is legally his by the way) can be contractually sold and used in all of its prescribed ways EXCEPT to be administered to known homosexuals. Homosexuals make up an extremely small percentage of the worlds population, so obviously none of the board members consider this to be an impact on their profit margin. In fact they see it as a bonus because hatred of homosexuals is a very popular thing in many parts of the world.

So now in this "free market" all it takes is a few media reports of the miracle cancer cure for everyone except homosexuals and then what do you know...suddenly there are a lot less homosexuals in the world. Obviously dying from cancer. But many other homosexuals would be forced to no longer be open about their homosexuality in fear of not receiving the cure if they happen to get cancer. Since homosexuality can be more easily concealed as opposed to skin color, many "homosexuals only" bars and businesses would obviously suffer even more than they normally would....well, you get the point. In the name of a free market, you have made the market less free.

Oh, yeaah, how about that media? Lets just say the owner of a local newspaper is a white supremecist. He decides to be slick and not hang the "whites only" sign on his business, but the policy is definitely apparent in the way he runs his business. He hires a very small handfull of blacks, but makes sure the majority of his staff are populated by white supremecists or racists. he informs them not to be open and blunt about their racist mission and instead makes selective editing on stories to push his racist agenda, all the while seeming "inclusive" and NOT lying in the legal sense. Now we have the entire populace being influenced by a white power newspaper in the guise of a normal and "open minded" media.

Man, I can go on and on and on with this pile of horse shit....

I got a delivery of a book called: Anarchism and Anarcho-Syndicalism by Rudolf Rocker today, 48 pages but more like 37 ish once the credits and foreward are out the way. Should give me a better insight.

Hell yeah. Social Democracy for the win.

Speaking of which, people like Rudolph rocker spoke of "Democracy" as if it were a code word for "rich, land owning". It is important to understand the time frame of the book. Rudolph was all for the individuals voice being heard. Also the social democrats of his age were more authoritarian than anything else.
