Your kids get served lunch in schools?

Yeah. It's a huge debate right now because the parents think the lunches aren't healthy enough, thus the menus should be changed, and obviously NC doesn't believe what the parents serve is healthy enough, so the kids should buy lunches from the school. Fucking mess.

My sister brought this up in conversation last night. Apparently they have been auditing all school cafeterias recently. The thing is they are supposed to be reviewing the cafeteria's food to make sure it meets USDA guidelines (aka rubbish), home brought lunches are not supposed to be part of it. If a kid only brings cheetos for lunch, they aren't supposed to be able to say anything.
She had an interesting story about her school though. Due to the auditing the cafeteria becomes obsessed with being in compliance and does not care about the students. According to the state a student can only have five items, which I am assuming is based on the USDA guidelines. The problem is a single piece of food may count as more than one item, a slice of pizza is 4. At my sister's school one of the cafeteria workers took carrots off a little girl's plate because she had 6 items and told her she was not allowed to have it. The girl was left with little else to eat but it met the item count and that was all that mattered.

The USDA food guidelines can go fuck itself. Of course I am also a fan of low carb for weight loss so I am just an obstinate little bastard. But seriously you don't need to follow their shit to remain healthy.
To be brutally honest it is not the states job to make the parents do their fucking job of raising their kids in a healthy way. If anything the state should research/educate about nutrition more, LOLZ improve education?!, and leave it at that.
Although I do think the schools can provide healthier choices auditing people's lunchboxes and trying to FORCE them to do certain things will just bite them in the ass. The food pyramid worked out SO well for us in the past.
Good thing people aren't fat as fuck.... on a very off note... where the FUCK is fr0d0?

Ha, me too. I've been low carb for the last 9 months. One of the best decisions I have made. I'm no fan of the USDA, that's for sure.

Just because something doesn't resemble a McDonalds, does not make it healthy.
Turkey and to a lesser extent, Banana are fine. But given the amount of carbs in that meal, the Banana is a waste.

It's nice to see some more support of LC... I do find it funny that the same people who created our food pyramid also believed that our ancestors ate a diet consisting mostly of fat, meat, and foraged roots/vegetation

5th, it's a kid. If the kid has a normal metabolism and gets exercise, that lunch is perfectly fine.
Perish the day our kids have to go on low-carb diets. Jesus.

Something incomplete? Fine give the kid an apple. But NOT fucking McNuggets! That stuff is not real food.
The juice and potato chips should also be omitted.
Finicky eater? Bullshit. It is the parent who decides what their little nose miner(s) will eat. Won't eat X or Z? No probs; she may get pretty hungry, then she will eat what is put in front of her. (unless she is allergic and goes into anaphylaxis)
As for US school nutritional standard; this is the authority which has declared pizza sauce to be a vegetable.
Recently an Australian child psychologist observed Quote:about 20% of parents have the parenting skills of an avocado.
I have no reason to suspect things are any better in the US.
