Confused Fall

For oil and gas. The US wants to control (read: steal) the oil and gas supply. There are major pipe lines (planned) from Kazachstan and Uzbekistan through Afghanistan.
Also: with 150,000 military in Afghanistan, 100,000 in Iraq, and the 6th Fleet in the Persian Gulf and the Arabian Sea America has got Iran completely encircled. Small wonder they feel threatened by the US! They are being threatened by the US! How would you feel if a dozen Hell's Angels with knives, bats, and chains were approaching you from all sides in a deserted parking lot?

Iran = oil and gas.

When you add oil and gas into the mix, all of a sudden it becomes clear why.
Oil reserves are running low, you're going to grab whatever oil supply you can.
The sooner we lose our dependence on oil the better.

Being an atheist says nothing about your overall intelligence, it just means you don't believe in god. Atheists can be as bright as any scientist and as stupid as any creationist.

You never really know just how stupid someone is, until you've argued with them.

Since 'alternative energy sources' (sunlight, bio, wind, waves, etc.) all together can't supply even 5% of our current energy requirements we will have to commit to nuclear fission and fusion! In a BIG way.

Are you prepared to do that?

Also: when we are not dependent on fossil fuels anymore the entire Middle East, Central Asia, Russia, Norway, Venezuela, and a number of similar countries will lose their primary source of income. With all manner of huge problems arising from that.
We will have to deal with that too.

Well, we do have fuel cell, methanol (which is easily and cheaply produced), alcohol, nuclear, tidal generators and more. Oil has a lot of value, the only reason I can think of why they still stick to it.

Think about the global energy infrastructure. That is the big moneymaker. Because there are gazillions invested in it. All that will become worthless when the paradigm changes. So 'they' are protecting their assets. And obstructing, no, effectively sabotaging progress...

Oh, it isn't that they can't, it's simply that it's cheaper to go with oil or nuclear. All of the forms of energy we have ever used on this rock are simply part of the chain that begins with those alternatives you mentioned. It's cheaper for us to buy into the middleman's product (fossil fuels) than develop our own production chains.

Fusion, imo, is the inevitable solution.
But the timeline is dangerously uncertain.
Another 'dark ages', without progress for a thousand years, is not unthinkable.
It's happened before.
Then, Xtianity was to blame.
Now it's amoral kleptocracy.
If we let it.
