I will absolutely continue to use smallpox as an example of a public health policy that leveraged widespread vaccination (on a global scale) that resulted in the successful eradication of an infectious disease. Because that's what it was. I will continue to use this example as an argument of why vaccinations should be mandatory precisely because it was so successful. If it weren't, I wouldn't. At no point does this example lend any weight to anti-vax arguments, because it's the polar fucking opposite of those arguments.

It wasn't mandatory worldwide and it was still eradicated! You are making my fucking point. Also, it is considered more of a risk than a benefit to vaccinate for it today.

Seriously? You just fucking cited where it said compulsion and jumped to the fucking conclusion that it was compulsory worldwide. No need to do a peacock fucking strut just yet, pal. Read the entire fucking Wikipedia article. It was NOT compulsory worldwide. Yet, it is still "eradicated." Eat fucking penis and learn how to conduct objective research.

That's right Shell, it wasn't compulsory worldwide, just in those countries where the vaccines were developed. Because we can't write laws for other countries. Nevertheless we developed nations went out into the world hunting the pathogen like an escaped con and immunized everyone we could (and not always in a very honest or open manner). Which nations where the ones where smallpox was eradicated first? The compulsory ones. Who eradicated smallpox in those countries where it was not? Organizations from countries where it was.

I don't think that. It contains cowpox. I am fully aware of that. That does not change the fact that it is dangerous. Saying "it is dangerous vaccination" =/= to saying "it can give you smallpox."
Again, when you get the vaccination, you get ill for a few days. You cannot share a bed, kiss, touch or allow someone else to do your laundry until you are done shedding the virus. It can cause heart problems and rare neurological issues in those vaccinated. Considering those risks, I believe informed decisions trump "the greater good." Furthermore, I believe quarantines are preferable to forced vaccinations.

That's not true, either. The mandatory vaccinations were state decisions.

Yes, and vaccinations were not the only method of eradication. In many cases, quarantines did the deed.

That doesn't mean it was compulsory in those countries. Providing the vaccine and services to eradicate the disease is not the same as forcing people to take vaccinations.
