How Can Christians Still Believe??

How Can Christians Still Believe??
I couldn't even believe in it even when I was 8 years old.
As soon as I learnt about science and found out that there were a hundred other religions I realised that there was no logical reason or evidence for Christianity and it was simply made up myths
No amount of will could ever make myself believe in it

To me part of human nature is the desire to learn more about the world around you and learn the truth about the Universe.
To me just obstinately holding particular beliefs about the Universe against all evidence is alien to me.

I believe in the Big Bang and evolution but would just as happily believe in some other theories if evidence were to come out that these theories were wrong and pointed to something else.

I don't understand or relate to theists and don't think I ever will?

That's really a complicated question.

Most people are born into a religion and simply accept it without ever thinking about it too much one way or another.

Some people are smart enough/curious enough to ask questions and at that point religion is in trouble.

Then there are those who accept everything they are told. We call these people fucking stupid.

Aren’t you over generalizing a bit. Most Christians, like Roman Catholics, accept in the big-bang and evolution. As far as I know only Evangelicals get all twisted up over these issues.

I'd have a particular place in hell..... if there was a hell... for evangelicals.

There. Now you know my secrets!

I'm actually relieved that so many catholics have told the church to go fuck itself in the wake of the pedophile priest scandal. I didn't think they had that much integrity.

Growing up Christian, I knew lots of serious Christians who read the entire Bible several times over. So why did they stay Christians? Because they were fully immersed in Christian culture. They knew every excuse for every bit of nonsense in there. What they never did is investigate their beliefs from the ground up, and really, honestly consider the possibility that it was all made up.

But those theories directly contradict the Bible.

If these Christians are going to say the Bible is completely wrong as far Genesis is concerned and stories like those of Adam and Eve and Noah's Ark are untrue why would you not start to question and wonder if maybe everything else in the Bible is completely made up including the 4 Gospels?

I just don't understand how anyone could do that though as it seems the most obvious and likely possibility that its all made up. It must take some tremendous force of will I do not possess, to read the whole Bible and still believe in it.

I understand why someone completely uneducated and unknowledgeable about the world as soomeone growing up in Africa now or living back in the Dark Ages might believe in it.

But when it comes to someone well educated living in the West today I understand it about as well as I understand Quantum Physics which is not very well.

I can't imagine it.
I don't think I ever really believed in it
Maybe I did when I was 5 or 6 but I don't remember now.

This is why they burned people alive for having beliefs contrary to those of the church for so long. They had to kill the "heretics" and scare the britches off everyone else to get it to stick. They killed off A LOT of thinking people, and it effectively infected society/humankind. Like the plague!

Now everyone believes it because they're programmed to believe it, and they're sincerely scared of what is going to happen to them when they die. It's brainwashing. 100%

From the very beginning, most people understood that the bible is filled with allegories, symbols and figures of speech. For example, there are two creation accounts. The first is an allegory about the inner growth of the individual. The second is an allegory about how our imperfect nature leads us to pursue evil into falsity. The trick is trying to figure out which parts are history and which are symbolic. Its a source of debate between denominations and theologians. Fundies on the other hand try to shoehorn modern science into places where it doesn't fit.
