Religious indoctrination of children

RE: Religious indoctrination of children
The fact remains G-C you have no idea what our parents/ or their parenting abilities were; just as we don't know about yours so your argument is worthless.

You seem to be assuming that parents of atheists are horrid and incapable of compassion, the amazing thing is that they were probably christian and that is why they had atheistic offspring.

I said nothing of the sort, please read what I say, not what you want to believe I said. I'm fully aware that a lot of atheist here have christian parents, what I said was that most of you apparently did not listen to them, the burden I place on the child.
God loves those who believe and those who do not and the same goes for me, you have no choice in this matter. That puts the matter of total free will to rest.

Wrong again G-C....the burden of blame is your silly little book. The children's crime is that we were given an education and so we read it.

Why do you hate humanity so much??
Let me expand on that.... the children, being "good little christian children", OBEYED their parents and READ that silly little book and became atheists.

Why do you hate children so much??

I do not hate children, what in the world would make you even entertain such an idea. I use to teach children and enjoyed it very much. You would not have said such a thing if you saw me with my great nieces and nephews.

Being Christian doesn't automatically equal good parent. I knew one guy a year younger than me whose parents were SOOOO "devoutly religious" as you would say, "religious fanatic" as I would say that he was home schooled and so isolated because of it that he had little friends, or contact with people not approved by his parents, and was so brainwashed that he felt ashamed of his own natural urges and guilty every time he had the slightest sexual thought. The guy had SERIOUS issues because he was brought up so Christian. That kid SHOULD have broke away and not listened to his parents. Even as a former Christian I know that kind of extreme is not necessary and that people can be "Good Christians" without being THAT strict to where you psychologically harm your own child in the name of religion.

If you LIVE, EAT, BREATHE, AND SLEEP nothing but religion it will ruin, rather than enhance your life...as with any "obsession"

I agree, home schooling isolates children from what's actually going on around them. I do not support home schooling nor christian parents who shelter their children, I've also seen the negative effect it has on children and think it's sad.
I do not believe to live, eat, breath and sleep christianity is being obsessed, I do believe it's wrong to misunderstand christianity and live, eat, breath and sleep it and then force this misunderstanding on the children. I often state that others on this site should study scripture before they comment on it, I am more adamant about christians studying the scriptures so they can see the truth of God's message, to often christians forget to see the love of Christ in their lives.

OK for the last time I'm going to explain this psalm, I'm tired of doing this simply because you and others refuse to read the entire psalm and try to understand it, this is why I ask people to STUDY scripture before they comment on it. Please quit your cherry picking, grow-up and be sensible.
This is not what God is saying, it was written by an Israeli who was in great despair and wanted revenge on the people who had conquered them. He wanted them to feel his pain and this is what he believed would equal his pain. Yes God inspired the psalm, so that Israel would always remember what they had suffered, He wanted them to see the despair they had suffered. If you can not understand this then I guess there is no hope of us to ever have an intelligent conversation.

There are several Christians who choose to home school and isolate their children from the world simply so they won't be exposed to anything that might turn them from religion, it's really, really sick. I'm not saying ALL Christians do this, the number of those who do is probably very low compared to normal Christian parents, but it does happen and religion and those who follow it waaaaaaay too closely, are the reasons it happens.

See, though I don't believe in or care for religion anymore, as a former Christian I do know the enrichment it can bring into one's life, but I do think it is possible to follow it SO much that it becomes an obsession and any obsession can lead to unhealthy behavior.

In the Christian sense we get the "Rosary Brigade" as I call them, protesting outside Planned Parenthood, turning a total BLIND EYE to the fact that not every woman going in there is getting an abortion but yet they fix their "burn your soul, you heathen" gazes at every woman who walks into their doors. Or Westboro Baptist Church for another example. It is possible to be TOO much into religion. I just think people should leave church in church, carrying your religion in your heart and don't preach it to those who want nothing to do with it, do the good it does teach, ignore the bad it teaches, KEEP IT OUT OF THE GOVERNMENT AND LAWS, and most importantly live and let live.

Reverse the situation and look at fanatical muslims terrorists who have taken lives, they lived, ate, breathed, and slept Islam, don't you think they could have had a healthy dose of stepping back a bit and letting other things into their life besides just religion?

The best thing we can do is teach our children about the God of Abraham. Discipline with the rod and show them the path to righteousness. We don't want our children to end up like most of the members of this site.... free of all morals and completely free to do whatever sin they desire without responsibility.

You're a great man of God, Godschild. There will be a great place of honor for you in paradise. These atheists just don't want to see the truth and I really don't think that they're intelligent enough to understand the Bible.

Everyone knows that God loves children. "Suffer the children to come unto me."

Common people! You know Godschild is right. There is only one way. Stop being so obtuse and accept the Lord Jesus Christ.

I raise my children to think critically and use logic. So, it goes without saying that they don't believe in gods, and find people that do to be more than a little creepy.

They're taught the golden rule, and are precious, bright, wonderful children. I would never punish them in a violent way. That's retarded. I have a brain, and use creativity to punish them when needed.

There are only 2 sins at our house:

1.) Not questioning everything, especially authority.
2.) Being boring.

They're only 7 and 5 years old, but they're already well-versed on evolution and scientific method. You'd lose a debate with them. My daughter, especially, would be highly offended if you told her she wasn't made of star stuff. Just the other day she was telling my neighbor how every atom in our bodies were once cooked in a star. See, nothing wrong here! My kids are godless, and already a million times more intelligent about reality than you.
