I always thought it was okay for American public schools to teach RE as a subject, just not to preach it as a doctrine. Looks like I learned something today.
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist. This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair. Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second. That means there's a situation vacant.'
Well they can teach a class about the bible as literature, but not teach religion as fact. I think teaching the bible as literature is coming way too close to crossing the line of church/state separation, though. It's not even that good a read and usually written in hard-to-understand language.
