If it's not the standard in other countries (like the one this ninja supposedly comes from) then ofcourse it shouldn't be a problem either because you shouldn't be expected to shake hands.

It does become a realtime problem, however, when a man from a country where it is customary to not shake hands with women emigrates to a country where it is customary to shake hands regardless of sex, and that man still refuses to shake hands with women. Because he then actively insults those women, who – emancipated as they are – expect to be treated as equals to men.
Also the law is on their side! It is illegal to discriminate on the basis of sex in western countries.

If Muslims expect that westerners respect their Muslim customs and laws when they visit their Muslim countries why don't these same Muslims extend that same courtesy to westerners when they, those Muslims, go to LIVE in those western countries? As they do in their millions.

In western countries not shaking hands with women is not only illegal, it is downright rude and denigrating!

BTW, if Muslim men don't shake hands with women because touching might arouse them, which should be avoided, then what the hell are they doing shaking every other man's had for minutes on end, all day long, every day of the year...?
Isn't the logical conclusion that they must ALL be homosexual?

Illegal?
What the heck?
I've lived in Germany for three years, and never saw such a thing.

I didn't know that shaking hands is something of a gender equality problem.
I shake hands with females, but unless I know them well, I generally tend to nod for a simple greeting, nothing more.
How am I denigrating the women? Besides, it's not like they held out their hands, and I refused to shake it, I simply did not extend my own hand to them for a greeting.

Of course, one has to respect the customs of the place one lives in.
I did that, and had minimal problems with the Germans I lived amongst.
Unlike my other countrymen who were BORN in the place, and were citizens, unlike me, an emigrant.

You were not the only Muslim living in the west. Thousands of other Muslims do not respect the customs of the place they live in!

I'm pretty sure not shaking hands with someone isn't illegal.

Obviously they don't, but I haven't really seen someone who went against it so hard, as to draw attention to themselves.
I knew some from the papers though, giving a bad name to us Turks thanks to their Turkish citizenship(despite not being an ethnic Turk), they were conducting honour killings and such, the four lettered folks, and then were paraded in the media as *Turks*.
Shameful that our state's laws give these assholes the status of a Turk....
Other than that, most Turks are quite integrated, but are also involved in crime.
I'm not taking responsibility for the doings of moslems of other ethnicities, like arabs, pakis or somalis.

It is discrimination on the basis of sex as stipulated in most western constitutions, and therefore illegal.
It has never yet been enforced in a court of law, though (bending over backwards with 'political correctness'), but that doesn't make it any less illegal.

I didn't know it was offensive.

Show me where it's exactly written as such.
I'm really unsure that such a thing exists.
I do not have to shake hands with anyone.

Are you serious? Nobody can force anyone to shake anyone else's hand. It's not illegal if you don't want to shake someone's hand, you're talking total bollocks.
