UK: Email and web use 'to be monitored' under new laws.

UK: Email and web use 'to be monitored' under new laws.
This was announced yesterday, and I originally thought it was an April Fool since the "new law" was going to be announced by the Queen (who doesn't get to decide new laws). Unfortunately, it seems that the BBC weren't kidding around; the Queen is going to announce a new law, and it's confusing exactly which members of parliament are behind it. In any case, if passed, it will effectively turn the UK into China / North Korea in terms of surveillance. This is an attack on our civil liberties, and nobody seems to know which members of parliament are involved (just those who are against it).

Yeah, I heard about that. Something to do with security. It seems our privacy is being made less private. I wouldn't mind so much if they did it with suspected or known criminals and terrorists, but not to freely snoop through random people's private messages.
Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence - Carl Sagan

Mankind's intelligence walks hand in hand with it's stupidity.

Being an atheist says nothing about your overall intelligence, it just means you don't believe in god. Atheists can be as bright as any scientist and as stupid as any creationist.

You never really know just how stupid someone is, until you've argued with them.

Is this more fallout from those riots?
Even if the open windows of science at first make us shiver after the cozy indoor warmth of traditional humanizing myths, in the end the fresh air brings vigor, and the great spaces have a splendor of their own - Bertrand Russell

The authorities already monitor what Britishers do every second of every day in the public space with 10 million CCTV cameras. So now they are expanding surveillance to the privacy of the home and private communications. It's a logical step on the road to Airstrip One.

I think you should tape up your device's built-in webcams and mics. Who knows who could be looking right at you, right now!

George Orwell strikes again.

And the Conservatives said they were going to be better on civil liberties than Labour. Pah, they'd like to bring in a 'bill of rights' and fuck off the European Human Rights Act, wonder why? Oh, because the Euro rights are friendly to PEOPLE, not Governments, bastards!!!!!

That is fucked up. There is no reason for them to need to monitor everything and everyone. People deserve privacy.

Before 2020 I expect every family to have mandatory webcams in their children's bedrooms "so that the government can take its responsibility and monitor and prevent child abuse".

And by 2030 infra-red webcams in your bedroom to monitor spousal abuse and perverted sex acts.
