Theistic Arguments: Claims and proof
#41
RE: Theistic Arguments: Claims and proof
I don't know if you're missing the point it is probably that I am thinking I am saying one thing but communicating another.

As far as proving atheism and theism I hold the position that neither side can be validated. In order for me to completely validate atheism I would have to be able to know things which I cannot know. However I have yet to see theism be proven either hence why my position is Agnostic Atheism instead of straight atheism.

On some things you do have mutual exclusivity though. For whatever reason I didn't notice that theism/atheism would fall into that category. Although there is a third option with Atheism/Theism which is the we don't know answer. Not sure where if you would consider that a third position or if you would group that under the wing of atheism/theism or not.

With respect to deity there are really only four positions:

There is a deity
There is not a deity
I don't know
I don't care

My position is that I do not believe in one because I do not think there is evidence. However it is also my position that deity is possible if evidence could be provided.

To me the only viable position on deity is "I don't know". That's backed up by my theology. Belief through faith excludes 'knowing' in that sense. To believe through faith you must not know, or you wouldn't need to believe through faith. Now are we talking religious belief or scientific knowledge?

Ok.... Sooo.. Which god will be laughing at me? 3 in 4 that it's not your religion. Doesn't that worry you..?

So, why your god? Let's just get to the point.

As all religious endeavour points at the same conclusions the same deity is invoked albeit in varying completeness. Mine being the most evolved.

I think with scientific knowledge we can have relative certainty which is... subject to change Tongue There are things we may find out are not universally true later on but for the most part a lot of the scientific "laws" seem to work at least in this side of the universe.

Religious knowledge depends on what type of religious knowledge you are talking about. Are you talking about knowledge based on religious texts, experience, faith, or something else? I am curious fr0d0 are you a religious pluralist by any chance?

Re: RE: Theistic Arguments: Claims and proof
A pluralist would have to consider science and faith as addressing the same subject, which I do not. I can appreciate science fully without it infringing on my religious beliefs at all.

Yes texts and experience inform my faith. I can appreciate any religious endeavour against my own.

And I thought it was because you're a thick twat.

Narrow escape then.
