1984 already happened, in the 40's and 50's. Why people are "waiting" for it (for whatever reason) is beyond me. It was not prophetic sci-fi, it was sci-fi as social commentary. It simply didn't happen where Orwell thought it would (the novel itself is largely about life in the Soviet Union and Wartime Britain, most of the elements of the plot and it's motiffs being predominantly British). In Orwells vision, GB would win the the war but it's democracy would not survive. He was half right. The Soviet Union (and much of the world) went on to parody themselves in a manner very much like the one that Orwell envisioned, but in many ways very different, which led him to remark that his "prophecy" failed to materialize in the manner that he had expected it to. Nevertheless, those elements of the narrative which led him to publish this story did exist, some still do exist, and it has become a fairly important little bit of fiction.

the new world order as some extremists see it, is already under way with the world bank and moving along nicely with the establishment of the european union. i say extremists because i'm not personally sure that it's happening but i'm not naive enough to ignore it's possibility. power is addictive. ted turner and dick cheyney are what i call extremist, in this sense. even zbigniew brzezinski, check into his famous "it's easier to kill a million people, than it is to control a million people" interview. The "New World Order" is just shorthand for whatever political party or ideology one finds themselves on the opposite end of (for whatever reason). The other is always the enemy, their motivations are always sinister.

My father in law likes to talk about the NWO and coming apocalypse. He's certain that at some moment in the not too distant future President Obama will sign an executive order and mobilize his own private army to bust down my father-in-laws door, with the express purpose of confiscating his bible..... I shit you not.

I don't think this is a christian exclusive thing. I also think that such an order will come with worldwide monopolist agendas, lower moral standards, cosmopolitanist crap on the rise, and the dissolution of nations.
In short, it's doom, for all of us.

hahaha. your father and i would have awesome discussions then. i don't buy the apocalypse but the way someone would build a new world order interests me to no end. i'm a NO on area 51 and all the hubbub around that, of course i'm a NO on god. however, i really don't see the connection of nwo to religion or party affiliation. all parties around the world have people who want the rule the world's money. it's all about money. there is no idealogy around it that isn't directed towards the power/money.
