Please present positive arguments why you think atheism is true

RE: Please present positive arguments why you think atheism is true
@Jireh, as it has already been stated there are many of us who are not defined as strong atheists. At the same time for those who do take the strong atheist position please consider this example:

Someone tells you invisible unicorns exist. You ask them for evidence for the unicorns and the offer no reliable evidence. Do you know for certain the unicorns don't exist?

Since you do not know the unicorns exist but you haven't seen evidence you assume they don't exist. Are you therefore an agnostic concerning unicorns? What if someone thinks up of some random creature such as "shaquistes" (thanks law and order). At a certain point we just start becoming agnostic about anything someone can imagine up.

So although the strong atheist may seem to be making a bold claim it is no more bold than claiming to know that the invisible unicorns don't exist. This is of course assuming no evidence can be presented. For those of us who are atheists here, we have not seen any reliable evidence for the existence of gods.

I doubt you would classify yourself as agnostic towards unicorns. I know you don't think God falls into that same category but please understand without further evidence that God is equivalent to the unicorn in our case.

Er, yes you did:
Quote:Who the hell do you think you are to make such a stupid claim that you have never seen a Christian here say atheists misunderstand Christianity?
You stated quite categorically that I made such a claim, and questioned who I was to make it. I did not make any such claim, hence my objection.
Quote:You asked me how I would like it if he did it to me. Apparently you have never seen Christians here do that very thing to atheists (yes, even me).
Exactly, I asked you how you would like it. I'm well aware Christians do it, even to you; my question was about how you would like it if (and when) they do it. Why do you feel justified in doing it to them when you object so heavily to them doing it to you? Hypocrite much?
Quote:I will tell you here the same as I told you in the other thread. If you don't want me to post anymore - BAN ME.
As I told you in the other thread, all I want is for you to drop the attitude, quit attacking people, and play nice. This isn't the first time you've openly attacked someone for no good reason, but mark my words, it will be the last.

Yes, I guess the words I write don't matter since you either aren't reading them or purposefully defining them to suit your needs. Either you will learn to read what I write as it is written or I am through playing this stupid word game with you.

I can read fine thanks. Can anyone else back me up on this one? When someone says "Who the hell do you think you are to make such a stupid claim that you have never seen a Christian here say atheists misunderstand Christianity?", they are implying that you made a claim that you have never seen a Christian here say atheists misunderstand Christianity.

Let's do a sanity check here.

Not interested in getting into the middle of all the fun - nonetheless, that's how I read it as well.

Tell me, are you reading what Tiberius is saying I wrote or what actually wrote that he quoted (hint: it said I never said you wrote it)?

edit: I still can't believe the nerve he has to insist I was carrying out a vendetta and mocking someone in another thread. He is the one following me around in that thread making stupid claims and he is the one who started this argument here and I am the one with a damn vendetta? I don't think he knows the meaning of the word.

I've been following this thread as it developed from the first post. I'm going by what you actually said.

That would be an impossibility since I said he never wrote it.

Clearly there's a misunderstanding here. I'm saying that you indeed said what Tiberius quoted in post 54 of this thread. That's what I meant.

Yes there is a misunderstanding here. I never denied saying that. Tiberius is intentionally twisting it and looking for others to confirm that I said he wrote that. Never did I say he wrote it and I even said that. He asked me how I would like it if a Christian said I misunderstood Christianity. From that question I take it to mean that he was totally oblivious to the fact that it is a common Christian tactic and one he should have seen here many times (a few times this week). If he wants to act like a child about it and claim I said he wrote that, he can but the sad fact is he is wrong.
