The feeling of a god speaking to you through prayer is nothing but the power of positive thought on the body. The main thing religion spoon feeds you is faith. If you honestly believe that you are speaking to god, your body will react and you will feel a connection or presence. Nothing divine here.

As much as I tried to, I never felt a presence. I realized that it is just a christian brainwash technique to make you think that you are communicating with something that isn't really there. The responses from the christians here are so fucking cliché and beyond stupid. You have NEVER communicated with your 'god' in any way and if you really think so, then how is that any different from being insane? This shit needs to be ridiculed, NOT respected in this society. Well, I'm most likely not a part of your society, so with all due respect please don't ridicule them. I want to hear from them how they believe God is speaking to them. Can we help it if your experience with God was not real, your problem was you tried to make God real in your life, instead you should have let God be real in your life. God loves those who believe and those who do not and the same goes for me, you have no choice in this matter. That puts the matter of total free will to rest.

Boy, that's total bullshit even by your low standards, G-C. Your phony god can never be "real." What G-C said was less intelligible than stuff you hear in a pentecostal church.

I have a question, since it is necessary that Christ be who He claims to be for anyone to be a true Christian, how is it you would give up all that He offers and just quit believing, actually how is that even possible? Now to explain, when one tries to make God real in their life it is they who are doing the work, when one allows God to work in their life it is God working through them, and until you allow God to work through you one will not see the will of God in their lives. If one does not understand God's will for one's life, then why should one expect to be able to experience God.

But under what you explained, the person when "allowing God to work in their life" cannot know it's really "God" "working" in their lives. It could all be rationalizations of seemingly random and meaningless events that the person subjectively interpretations to be the "workings of God" in their life. And what does "allowing God to work in your life" mean anyway? How does one get that process started? And what exactly is "God's will"? Edit: corrected some grammar mistakes. It's getting late here.

Godschild Wrote:I have a question, since it is necessary that Christ be who He claims to be for anyone to be a true Christian, how is it you would give up all that He offers and just quit believing, actually how is that even possible? That's actually a very fair question. I thought it was impossible as well. I would go through periods where my faith was extremely low, but I always blamed myself for having a degree of disbelief, as in, not fully being able to trust God with everything in my life. Never did I go through a period where I called it a day and never came back.. Until the start of this year. What made me cross the line and never be able to see Christianity in the same way is primarily the lack of evidence for the Biblical Jesus. I don't know if you saw my thread about the Historical Hercules at all, but what I was showing there was a) Jesus doesn't compare to what we can read about Hercules from secular sources and, more interestingly, b) you're almost forced to accept that a Historical Hercules lived if we say that the evidence for Jesus is enough to accept him as a real person. So I guess I find it rather odd that no one else had something to say about Jesus. For me it's always been about the truth at the end of the day. People always think that theists are afraid of death and hence why they believe. To that I used to say if God exists then it's out of my control whether I live forever or not. But because there is a lack of reason to think the Son of God walked amongst us I can't even begin to put faith in the Bible.
