Quote:Faith and evidence don't go in the same sentence. With evidence comes the rational understanding of a particular truth whereas with faith one acknowledges it can not be shown to be true, hence why one must have faith that it is true.I do not quite agree with you. There are many problems associated with evolution - yet you may believe it - have faith in the theory. Evidence may support a theory - which may later appear to be unfounded. Science is sometimes described as a process of discovery - and not a final result - thus still sometimes faith in something which was not true but was based on "evidence". There are even disagreements within the scientific community (that accepts the theory evolution). By implication one or more will be wrong - and thus faith in their "interpretation" misplaced or correct. As far as evidence for the Christian faith, it is not based on "head-in-the-sand" acceptance of "fairy stories", but based on information - and that which can be verified by any reasonable person actually checks out. Thus evidence supports my faith. The same way that evidence supports your faith. Hence... big argument. My position in any case is not to convince you that you are wrong. I assume you have undoubtedly come to your conclusion based on research. I would rather have you consider that the existence of God as a real possibility, and one with dramatic implications. And if you do, now or in the future, come to a different conclusion, it will be none of my doing in any case and will not be based on careful consideration of fact. The Christian faith is not in the first instance a choice of which facts seems to fit available information best. It is however a real pity that there are many false "prophets" - and it must be real confusing to listen to so many interpretations. One of the problems is that religion is big business. Forget what people say (especially the clever ones from seminaries) - check the Bible out and some of the older preachers (see Jonathan Edwards and Charles Spurgeon) RE: Evolution in action

I'd be willing to consider it a "real possibility", just as soon as you show me how to assign metrics to an intangible. Perhaps you could show me how to dismiss all of the tangibles we do have about the whole "god" business as well, because that's also in the way.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!
Creationist "logic" summed up:
Show me an amoeba evolving into a person. What, you can't do that? Ha! EVOLUTION DISPROVEN! Show me every fossil of every species that ever existed and show me a smooth evolutionary transition from each and every generation that ever lived. You can't? Ha! EVOLUTION DISPOVEN! Show me a T-Rex evolving into a Chicken. What you can't? Ha! EVOLUTION DISPROVEN! Evolution is a theory. We all know theories are all just made up. Ha! EVOLUTION DISPROVEN! Creationists have completely unreasonable, unrealistic demands for evidence of evolution yet question none for the Bible because in their heads, the Bible is proven fact. Below seems to be always their response when faced with the evidence: What about the fossil record which shows clear transitions of vertebrates evolving from sea to land animals? "Not good enough. It could be a mutant! It could be a hoax! And you don't have fossils of every species during that transition! Ha! Checkmate, evilutionists!" What about the B-cells in our bodies evolving to combat new strains of pathogens, or bacteria evolving resistances to antibiotics? "That's not evolution, that's just variation/adaptation! You've never seen a monkey give birth to person, have you! No? Then God did it! God did it all!" What about DNA evidence, and the fact that DNA shows we are more closely related to some animals than others, and mitochondrial DNA proves that we share a common ancestor with Chimps? "Lies! Evilutionists made it up! We share 98% of our DNA with bananas too, and we can't mate with bananas! Ha! EVILUTION DISPROVEN!" What about speciation being observed, and some Creationists acknowledging it? "Speciation is not evolution! We never see a rabbit give birth to a Frog! Ha! EVILUTION DISPROVEN!" I really would like to say I caricatured what Creationists said, but I find what they say extraordinarily difficult to parody. Their arguments almost always come in these forms.

Quote:Show me an amoeba evolving into a person. What, you can't do that The above will represent your whole post. All you have shown is that the evolutionist has no evidence and uses faith. --------------------------- Quote:I've been on other religious forums where I have been insulted and disrespected. But, on those sites, you're required to "respect" the buffoonish beliefs of the brainwashed So you attack those innocent of such actions? The term 'brainwashed' really is a two edged sword and deoends upon a person's perspective. Quote:Since "God" is an imaginary being, You have asserted that, not proven it true. Sadly for you, changed lives for over 2,000 years, miracles and other acts for the same length of time disprove your assertion. Quote:I could go on for pages) All you are describing is not the work of 'science' but men using God given determination, their God given intelligence, using God given raw materials, to produce those items you claim were done by science. Science is an imaginary entity and does not exist and contains no such abilities or capibilities to produce what you have claimed to have been the work of science. What I see are CREATED HUMANS doing the work. Quote:Baseless assertion. You have any evidence to support this claim? Yes but you do not accept it as evidence but then you do not have any evidence for an alternative source for those items. You have to use theory and faith. RE: Evolution in action

DeeTee's religion delusion is the only true religion delusion.

Someone's experience is not evidence of something. It's not objective. "It is the mark of an educated mind to be able to entertain a thought without accepting it" ~ Aristotle
Quote:Someone's experience is not evidence of something. It can be evidence of their delusions....not much more.
Or perhaps of their opinion of their audience's credulity.
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist. This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair. Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second. That means there's a situation vacant.'
