[split] Quotes OS derail.

RE: Quotes
That's not bad at all....Do you have any programs from your past software that W7 has any troubles with?

In other words, what conflicts have you had with software so far? (If any)....

RE: Quotes
None until I tried to install the latest ViClient (VMWare ESXi host management) but ultimately it is still in release so some problems are to be expected ... tends to work fine though and I'm reasonably protected since my documents are on a server and my mail (on Win 7) set to leave on server (i.e XP is still my main machine even though it's hardly used).

Bull, Servers you leave on, desktops you switch off, irrelevant of the OS.

Bull back at you ... maybe you don't but some many Linux aficionado's do, I used to see it proudly displayed in the forum signatures (462 days up or whatever ... I'm guessing it was some kind of snipe at Windows) all the time and, quite conceivably, times have changed but what I said is correct at least in my experience.

RE: Quotes
I did that with novell netware servers that stayed on for 10 years. But within the club practically every Linux user I know of shuts down their OS after they are done. Except in the case of torrent downloaders but that does not constitute being done.

You are not the only one with real life experience of other ones computer habits you know.

Within the club? LOL ... Leo I am only telling you about what I know to be true ... you CANNOT tell me it is bullshit when it isn't and maybe you and yours don't (and all power to you) but MANY LINUX USER'S DO (or did .. I haven't checked for a while)!!!!!!

RE: Quotes
The same used to be true for many Windows users, particularly when they switched from win98/ME to 2000/XP, and finally had a stable system. But that novelty wears of quick. People who show uptimes of months just waste a lot of energy for no reason. It doesn't matter what OS they use.

I don't think that was true quite simply because it was a form of behaviour (of boasting if you like) that only appeared to be associated with Linux user's ... what's more I don't think it was specifically recognised as (environmentally) bad behaviour, I think they were just out to hype their cherished OS.

RE: Quotes
That's a fact, Linux fans have a tendency to overhype their OS. But I have seen this exact same behaviour in windows users as well.

RE: [split] Quotes OS derail.
I'm pretty sure the uptime messages are usually from servers. If you kept your PC on for 467 whatever days then you would miss out on all the kernel updates (which to me doesn't sound like a Linux fanboy).

The longest I've kept mine on was a couple of days where I was downloading torrents like leo said.

I did the same behaviour on Windows though, leaving it on for days whilst torrents downloaded.
