Mystery of horse taming 'solved' by gene study
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-17943974

Quote:Horses were domesticated 6,000 years ago on the grasslands of Ukraine, southwest Russia and west Kazakhstan, a genetic study shows.

Domestic horses then spread across Europe and Asia, breeding with wild mares along the way, research published in the journal PNAS suggests.

The work, by a Cambridge University team, brings together two competing theories on horse domestication.

The matter has been hotly contested by scientists.

Good heavens, Man tamed horses only a few years after god created the world! It must be divine intervention!

Interesting. I wonder how long, or if, this will withstand scrutiny

I think it was a lot earlier than that. I believe both the Mycenean Greek and the Hittites had war chariots way before anyone has ever heard of Assyrains. The first recorded battle in history, between Remesis II's Eqypt and the Hittits in Syria, featured war horses.

There is an very impressive set of segmented broze Mycenean armor with boar's tusk helmet that could only have been worn by someone with a chariot to carry them around.

Well, you can say this due to their written and illustrated history shows that they had horses they used for war chariots.
We, however used the horse for riding directly, without the need for chariots.
