If you have a DSLR, the trick is to set a really fast shutter speed, then wait til the sun is just about to set (that point where you can basically look at the sun shortly with your naked eye or through a good pair of dark sunglasses)

How fast we talking? 1/4000?

That's what I had mine set at when I first started taking pictures, any slower and it was too bright to even see venus. As it got closer to sunset I slowed it down to something like 1/1600. Also had the f-number high.

I would just use TV mode and not worry about it. We need a photography thread to cream our panties over photo-speak.

I got 146 images of the event before the sun went down. Some are very interesting. I will stitch them together into a time lapsed video and will post a link to it when I am finished. Stay tuned.

I'm looking forward to seeing it. Unfortunately, I didn't plan ahead and my scope was stored away where I couldn't get at it.

Here are my first images and a video

I went to Greenwood Boat dock, in Louisville to capture these images because it was closer to home than where the astronomy club was hosting their event, and I thought it might be too crowded there. More importantly, I needed my scope to be near my car, and that was not possible at the club event. Anyway, the view was really good considering the clouds early on. Here are a couple of my pictures, and a time-lapsed video:
