How very true.

My brother sent me this image.
"Religion is regarded by the common people as true, by the wise as false, and by the rulers as useful" - Edward Gibbon (Offen misattributed to Lucius Annaeus Seneca or Seneca the Younger) (Thanks to apophenia for the correction)
'I am driven by two main philosophies:
Know more about the world than I knew yesterday and lessen the suffering of others. You'd be surprised how far that gets you' - Neil deGrasse Tyson
"Sometimes I wonder whether the world is being run by smart people who are putting us on or by imbeciles who really mean it." - Mark Twain

I define "respect for religion" as it: what respect. until it does more good then harm it will not have my respect.

Respect is earnt.
Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence - Carl Sagan
Mankind's intelligence walks hand in hand with it's stupidity.
Being an atheist says nothing about your overall intelligence, it just means you don't believe in god. Atheists can be as bright as any scientist and as stupid as any creationist.
You never really know just how stupid someone is, until you've argued with them.

Well you do go on and have strange superiority complex saying (or almost saying) Turkey is the best country in the world. There is patriotism, then there taking the piss.

"We must respect the other fellow's religion, but only in the sense and to the extent
that we respect his theory that his wife is beautiful and his children smart."
— H.L. Mencken
'It's now very common to hear people say, "I'm rather offended by that", as if that gives them certain rights.
It's no more than a whine. It has no meaning, it has no purpose, it has no reason to be respected as a phrase.
"I'm offended by that." Well, so fucking what?'
