How does a platypus give creationist any problem at all, the evolutionist needs to find the fossils that lead up to this very unusual mammal, then the creationist might have a problem. God knew evolution was coming down the line, He made the platypus to drive them nuts, and He has done that. All I can say, get digg'in evolutionist, them fossils might be out there some where.
Erm, since the platypus is itself a rare animal, and is also aquatic, finding an ancient fossil relative is unlikely, though not impossible. The fact that they contain reptilian, avian, and mammalian characteristics is actually evidence for evolution, not evidence against it. It is exactly the kind of animal one would expect as being transitional - that said, the fact is that ALL species are transitional. And that is the greatest problem of all for creationists.

They call that convergent evolution. It's actually a very strong case for NS, in that some traits appear to be so successful that multiple unrelated lineages have converged on them, and this happens very, very often.

Stop saying "evolutionist"... it is like saying big bangist or general relativitist. I hate the word.

It's because he's completely ignorant on the subject. Every creationist is.
Funny thing is, it's not difficult to study. http://rationalwiki.org/wiki/Common_descent

Being an atheist says nothing about your overall intelligence, it just means you don't believe in god. Atheists can be as bright as any scientist and as stupid as any creationist.
You never really know just how stupid someone is, until you've argued with them.

Why would any study be required for an understanding of this subject at the level it is being discussed (just the very surface)? Introductory biology is a requirement for graduation from mandatory education in this country, I'm guessing it's a requirement where the creationist is from as well (if he's not A-murikin). We are given our first taste of a focused course in biology as early as the 6th grade. By the time a person is twelve years old they should have some rudimentary understanding of the evolutionary process.

Unless, Rhythm, the unfortunate circumstance of the convergent hands has occurred. That, coupled with the emergent nyah-nyah, can often keep any learning at bay.

Fun fact: Conservapedia actually uses the platypus as an example of God having a sense of humour. Apparently the trolls on the website are big fans of Kevin Smith, because I heard that line used in Dogma.

Isn't the platypus pretty close to Kirk Cameron's "Crocaduck"?
