The dick who the church sent to BBC news couldn't justify anything. All he said was "The Government say they're just extending marriage, whereas they are actually changing it" (paraphrased). This is pretty piss-poor as a justification for their bigotry, because by definition, extension is a change.

Let's hope the trend continues. Unfortunately they reproduce by assimilation, so we can't afford to rest on our hardy laurels until they're merely an embarrassing footnote in history and probably not even then.
