It is a known fact that you don't have to be gay to be a pedophile. In fact being gay has nothing to do with pedophilia.

There was a documentary on Channel 4 here recently (I forget what it was called), that covered this. Most of the abuse was in fact against girls but its the gay abuse that generates the press.
But to be honest it dosent matter what sex the victim was, abuse is abuse.

The documentary implied that because of the strange way the laws of the church operated the clergy looked on ANY sex as the same level of offence and would treat a peadophile the same as a priest who had relations with an adult

"Homosexerals are a sin". That's how people say it here. "homosexerals". Idiots. or "We ain't born gay and them scientists are devil worshippers". I like that quote too.

There is a gay gene. Some people need to get that memo.

Oh yes...why homosexuality is equated to child molestation is beyond me. Do they not realize that child molesters usually aren't gay and usually have a hetero partner or partners? Oh and molestation can come from a woman, man, or another child.

I am all for the fact that homosexuality is natural because it is what keeps populations in the animal kingdom in check and hence the same applies with humanity. Homosexuality is ever present in the animal world so it isn't something new. It doesn't make a person weird or crazy. I think people who are against homosexuality are generally unclear on the entire concept or are against it due to religious reasons.

There are also documentaries on this which I must say bring very clear insight.

Despite the fact that I utterly accept homosexuality as natural I'm not entirely sure there's a specific gay gene ... there may be but then again it may be more complex than that!

Has anyone actually tracked "gayness" in a genealogical sense (bit like Mendel's work) to establish such a gene? Just curious.

According to Wikipedia (I know, I know Kyu, but there are some nice sources), there is still some debate about whether it is genetic or not. A lot of work is being done in chromosome linking (comparing chromosomes) with gay brothers and their families, and a correlation is apparently present.

I suggest watching John Barrowman's docu-thingy called "The Making of Me" where he meets up with a load of people attempting to explain homosexuality biologically.

Seen it ... as I recall it appears to be a natural thing that happens as more males are born into a family.

That's a fascinating observation.Sadly probably far too rational too be true. Have you seen any data about about the prevalence of homosexuality amongst only children?


I'm not convinced there is single cause. I think homosexuality can be either genetically predetermined,like being left handed, or learned behaviour,entirely or in part. Perhaps THE classic argument for learned behaviour is that homosexual males tend to be found in families with a smothering mother and absent father.(the stereotypical 'mummy's boy')

What determines WHICH boy in a family is gay?

Perhaps not the best way to learn,but it CAN inspire.

When I was about 14 there was an American physicist here on TV called ' Julius Sumner Miller' . I loved him;he made science fascinating.
