Atheism thoughts

Atheism thoughts
I was born in Guatemala, central America. I was born and raised a catholic. I used to be afraid of really doing "sinful" things and the whole religious consequences.

When i started thinking and realizing how contradicting all this "god thing"is, i started actually thinking more objective and doubting all this beliefs. I became an atheist without even knowing what atheism meant.

I came to realize by observing people around me, religious people.
religion is actually a psychological phenomenon rather than a real need for spiritual transformation and salvation of ones soul. Every religious person tends to maneuver religion and how god behaves according to their own agenda. People know exactly how god thinks for some things, but say that god acts strange when theres no explanation.
In society there are certain theories that we can observe and will explain how depending on where u are born, what belief you will have. .

Observational learning (also known as vicarious learning, social learning, or modeling) is a type of learning that happens as a result of observing the behavior of others. Although observational learning can take place at any stage in life, it is thought to be of great importance during childhood, particularly as authority becomes important. The idea that behavior is learned by observing others has influenced debates on the effect of television violence and parental role models. Observational learning appears to occur without the reinforcement of ongoing behavior that is called for in behavioral models of operant or instrumental conditioning. In particular, Bandura noted that "social imitation may hasten or short-cut the acquisition of new behaviors without the necessity of reinforcing successive approximations as suggested by Skinner

A schema (plural schemata or schemas), in psychology and cognitive science, describes an organized pattern of thought or behavior. It can also be described as a mental structure of pre-conceived ideas, a framework representing some aspect of the world, or a system of organizing and perceiving new information. Schemata influence attention and the absorption of new knowledge: people are more likely to notice things that fit into their schema, while re-interpreting contradictions to the schema as exceptions or distorting them to fit. Schemata have a tendency to remain unchanged, even in the face of contradictory information.

As for atheism, i believe that all the god, jesus and all those "religious comics" that people will kill for, is a simple way for weak minds to find confort on their daily happenings.
Atheism is not believing in science presicely. Religious people attack atheists and automatically assume that atheists think certain way and its all about science. I think that as long as you do not believe on fairy tales, theres a universe of knowledge out there to discover.

Maybe not the most organized thoughts, but i think u guys have a general idea of what i mean Smile

Actually, it isn't that at all. Atheism is the lack of gods, nothing else. Science can't be believed in. I might be atheist, but a more correct statement is "I understand the scientific method, know biology and chemistry because I'm educated and interested to learn", not "I'm an atheist, thus I have to be scientifically inclined".
When I was young, there was a god with infinite power protecting me. Is there anyone else who felt that way? And was sure about it? but the first time I fell in love, I was thrown down - or maybe I broke free - and I bade farewell to God and became human. Now I don't have God's protection, and I walk on the ground without wings, but I don't regret this hardship. I want to live as a person. -Arina Tanemura

That is correct! the reason why i mentioned that is because everytime someone attacks the atheism concept, they impose that atheism goes hand to hand with science. The use of the concept is erroneus. I was looking at a couple of videos that someone posted on other forums. Some video about destroying atheism in 50 seconds.

Well, for people who can't separate the big bang theory and the theory of evolution, I say it's a lost cause anyways. But to be fair, many atheists are indeed interested in different sciences.

As for the videos, look, laugh, move on. Such bullshit should be paid too much attention Wink

It is rather difficult to be someone who does rely more on facts and logic to not be interested in a science. I say difficult because the trend I have personally witnessed (I'm sure there's some study somewhere on it that is better than my own personal observation) is that a majority of those whom are of a non-religious/atheist/secular/etc persuasion are very interested in at least some sort of science.

Not saying that there are those that are not, for there are other things to pursue that are not scientific. Science and atheism are mutually exclusive, but their paths cross often.

After all, science is just a way of explaining and understandig our surroundings. Of course is not allways accurate and 100% reliable, but hey! come on! we are a young species and we are learning. and the way i think and i believe thats what made me an atheist after all... Is that we need to keep searching and understanding everything around us. Not just settle with what someone tells us and call it a day. Smile

Ahh, so you are a skeptic. That is generally what leads people to question their faith, after all. You look at your mother and your father and your community and your compatriots, and you just have to wonder whether they really believe the crap that is spoonfed to them every Sunday.

Honestly, the more people press you to stop questioning and stop thinking, the more you are compelled to do so. It's as if they are hiding something from themselves, and your questions would erode their mental block against evidence. Meanwhile, they must work to build up your own mental block so you might end up just like them.
Certainty and dogma will only hold us back.
My conclusion is that there is no reason to believe any of the dogmas of traditional theology and, further, that there is no reason to wish that they were true.
Man, in so far as he is not subject to natural forces, is free to work out his own destiny. The responsibility is his, and so is the opportunity.
