I don't watch the news because it's rarely news. This is also in line with my Taoism.
That being said, if I want to do primary verification of an item, I start with CNN online. (Television news has ceased being useful for anything.)
I woke up on 9/11 and people on IRC were talking about the complete destruction of the World Trade Center. For a while, I thought it was just some stupid joke they were making. Then I pulled up some feeds.

I am surprised nobody mentioned RT. They are biased but they give unique perspectives not found on other news.
