LOL. Apparently, time will tell. I find it quite interesting just sitting back and watching it all unfold.

Oh it's not so bad. It's not like we've got ourselves an E.L.E to worry abo.....uh...wait a sec....

There's always an extinction event. It matters very little so long as we don't appear on the roll call. I humbly suggest that of all life ever to grace this rock, we may be the best equipped to escape extinction. We don't have to rely on a roll of the dice. Again, I'm not trying to downplay any concerns as non-issues, but I'd rather they become actual issues -where we spend more time discussing solutions-, than generic street corner doomsday shit, rgr? My frustration here isn't really due to anything in the thread in it's entirety, like I said, I have this discussion at least twice daily..hehe.

The potential death tolls and disasters appeal to our sense of the macabre, I get it, but at some point you hear it all a thousand times and it stars sounding like so:

"We're all going to die"
-That sounds horrible, what are we going to do about it?
"We're all going to die"
-Stop wasting my time.....especially....if we're all going to die.
"We're all going to die"
-Die in a fire you son of a bitch.

I'm building a space ship.

You're a step ahead of most..hehehe. I'm also planning a ship..of sorts.

Don't really like the style though, I want to do something a little closer to

with all the fancy new toys and trimmings.

Btw, the Greeks actually went through something like this long long ago. The climate shifted on them (albeit locally) as they began to run out of a reliable fuel source. They got smart, not dead. I think we're more capable than they were.

After that light hearted aside -good stuff-, I wanted to touch a little on why overpopulation and population control need to remain separate from ACC. It's not just an issue of concerns over the practicality or ability to legislate/persuade/coerce such things...it's an issue of questionable effect.

Without googling the exact numbers, it's generally accepted that a very small fraction of human beings are consuming a very large amount of our resources rgr? Here in the developed world families with 15 children aren't exactly common. So, if societies that form such a small fraction of our overall population which already (indirectly) control their populations are currently consuming such a vast amount of these resources, and the effects of this consumption is the cause of ACC, then why are you assuming that fewer people would have any effect whatsoever? It isn't the teeming huddled masses with an army of children stripping this place bare. It's those of us with 1.5 children, a two car garage, and a dog (and those teeming huddled masses with children starving are often in the position they are in directly because of or by our influence/indifference). There are already "very few" people consuming resources, due to the control that wealth affords over these resources. This is all that any sort of population control would do, create a situation where there are fewer of us (which doesn't seem to help).
