Na death penalty is the easy way out. 30 years of hard labor and a diet of bread and water...let him suffer

@Clive - as far as I can see there's no theistic element identified in this tragedy, so no need to pounce on theists. Even if there were such an element, that would be totally separate to the purely human dimension of the event and I certainly wouldn't think of polluting the shock and grief with such speculative bickering.
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist. This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair. Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second. That means there's a situation vacant.'
Said it a million times, i'll say it again. Thank fuck our conservatives aren't brain dead like yours are.
Quote: WASHINGTON -- Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-Texas) said Friday that the shootings that took place in an Aurora, Colo. movie theater hours earlier were a result of "ongoing attacks on Judeo-Christian beliefs" and questioned why nobody else in the theater had a gun to take down the shooter. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/mobileweb/...nt_top_art (July 20, 2012 at 6:28 pm)5thHorseman Wrote: Said it a million times, i'll say it again. So far they've ruled the country with a "coalition" government nobody voted for and made change after change to slowly ruin this country and gain them more money. Either they're very intelligent or we're very stupid. I'll leave that for you to decide.

We should not go there, these post are for letting emotion go. Most the conservatives will not agree with what he said, enough said, let's use this to express our emotions for those who are hurting. Looking at it from the hypothetical point of view you provided, I would say the same thing; whether it's my own child or someone else's child, I would still not condone the state-sanctioned killing of any individual. I do believe in the death penalty for certain crimes, but in this case i do not think that justice will be served for those who survived or the ones who have lost loved ones. This crime is so bad that this person should have to suffer in solitaire confinement for the rest of his life, he should have to suffer along the family and friends of all the victims. To me even this is not enough, but there is a limit that man can go to.
God loves those who believe and those who do not and the same goes for me, you have no choice in this matter. That puts the matter of total free will to rest.

I agreed let the asshole suffer, hard labour for the rest of his life, or locking in a maximum security psycho-hospital as there is something not right in his head, I heard the the death penalty my be used and it will be the first since 1997. If he does I say the lethal injection is to good for him, gas the fucker.

The thing that actually depresses me most is the vengefulness of the some of the general public, whose notion of closure seems to involve inflicting more suffering. This has nothing to do with helping people and everything to do with sating their own desires. Putting aside extenuating circumstances - which there may or may not be - think about the suffering the shooter's family will endure. It's much more productive, I think, to turn that energy toward helping the families involved (including the shooter's) in whatever form they need it. Instead of brainstorming creative ways to torture the shooter, why not come up with ways to help the victims and their families?
Maybe one day people will wake up and realise that it is a bad idea to permit members of the public to own firearms. I can think of of no good reason for it (maybe a exeption for farmers needing a shotgun for pest control)
As for the nut who carried out the attack, I think he should be a compulsery organ doner, at least get some good use out of his body
