Fuck off I'm only 15 years of that age, and you know what I have learnt some people actually have minds of their own, and can have different views from me. Have you thought that these decrepit old codgers of yours might prise honesty as a virtue?
It's certainly been my experience that old folks don't have a problem with finding out their grandchildren are going to be tortured forever in hell. They typically take it with grace and aplomb.
Actually, the response I've been subjected to has been non-stop prosyletization every minute I spend with my 75-year-old father since my step-sister-in-law asked me if I'm a believer a few years ago. I was all about the integrity, but I'd take it back if I could. It wasn't worth spoiling my interactions with my father, probably for the rest of his life.
Just sayin'.

I'm sure she must have known, it isn't like I have had it hidden all my life, but when I actually said to her that I don't believe in god she didn't flip. She did, however, say "once a catholic, always a catholic"... so I think she is under the impression that because I was christened I can't be anything else. She is a bit crazy anyway.
My dad figures since I was baptized in the name of Jesus I won't be fooled by the antichrist. I'm gonna miss the Rapture, but I still gotta chance!

There is another side to that, how many relationships have been destroyed, by things festering underneath the surface which cannot be spoken of. Many of my gay friends would tell you life is much better when they come out than when they had to hide their nature, even though it will inevitably cause complications.
Maybe the culture of acceptance is easier in Britain, Europe, etc than in the Midwest USA but that could be because, we have got used to people standing up against the rest of the community, somebody has to stand up to them, or is the idea of leaving things to others now so deep in the culture, nobody should take a risk?

Readers were asked for their opinions.
You're just vandalising what is otherwise an interesting thread.

And the whole point was to avoid telling his grandparents that he doesn't believe in god, so your suggestion he sit down with them comes across as trollish behavior and not actual advice.

Haha...letting you know you're being a twat is not poisoning the well.

Your logic is broken. He said WHEN.
Why would he need advice on how to go about NOT TELLING his parents?

Yes, when the conversation inevitably turns to god, he wanted to know how to handle without hurting them. Clearly, without hurting them means not telling his grandparents he doesn't believe in god.
Anyways, we are in danger of completely derailing this thread, so unless either of us has any further advice to give, I suggest we let this go.
