Not that he's great by any means.

Merely less of a cocksucker than what the republicunts are putting forward.

These are the choices we are left with.

I lack the confidence in the American electorate that you have, my friend.

Remember...they did elect Dubya once.

Now Romney is rubbing elbows with a different kind of job creator!

Actually, that may not matter seeing as he might have disqualified himself by taking foreign campaign contributions illegally.

@jackman

This one, like a lot of others, makes me sick:
"Voted NO on enforcing against anti-gay hate crimes."

Scum bag.

Honestly, everything in that link makes me astonished this fucker is even allowed to call himself a politician. From his stances on civil rights, to energy and oil, to foreign policy, this is a man that does not deserve to ever be in power in any sense of the word. America really is full of retards if people actually take guys like this seriously.

Ofcourse, I don't mean to offend anyone who doesn't, just everyone who votes for the Republican party, I mean seriously, are you out of your fucking mind?!?

I feel more and more like Picard each day hearing about these Republican politicians...

yeah dude, definitely. he definitely is on the forefront of voting his party line, which to me, makes him a hardline rightwing guy. that votes that you picked out are insane and so many others on that list, i can't even start to pick a few.

the thing that drives me crazy is that the same people who will vote for this guy are in the biggest subset of people that his policies will hurt. he is a big business guy and his votes, as evidenced on that link, support just that. i love the studies which break down obama's healthcare plan into individual questions and asks pollsters what they're in favor of and over 60% would be in favor of it. until they find out it's obama's plan, then mysteriously it's like the bubonic fuckin plague. how anyone would say they don't want a plan that makes it illegal do deny you coverage for pre-existing conditions is beyond me. damn near everyone will have a condition at some point. fuck!

It's important to remember that the adjective "far" is a relative one to the current political climate. Societies, like the individuals that comprise them, can shift their political views over time so that what was once "extreme" or "radical" for one generation might be "accepted" or "mainstream" the next.

I believe I have some perspective here since 25-30 years ago, I was an outspoken Reagan-worshiping conservative. Were it up to me, I'd have put his face as the fifth one on Mount Rushmore. My opinions very gradually, almost imperceptibly, changed over the years. I went through a phase of libertarian, then "moderate libertarian" (as I called it at the time) and now what I am today (somewhere between liberal and libertarian, or social liberal and economic moderate).

Now here's what I've observed: even as my views shifted to the left, I've seen America shift to the right. I know this because I remember clearly what I once said, believed and wrote at that time. I can tell you that if you were to transport through time the Alex Keaton that I once was to the modern day, he (I) would be appalled and want to distance himself (myself) from the current crop of candidates.

Reagan is lionized by the current Republican party but their knowledge of him is fuzzy at best, take it from someone who lionized the real man. Reagan was willing to raise taxes and close loopholes when he had to. Reagan was willing to negotiate both with political rivals and with foreign adversaries. Reagan was willing to withdraw from foreign quagmires like Lebanon when it was shown to be a mistake. Now, we can criticize all these decisions and others that I haven't mentioned but my point is that Reagan was far to the left of the current crop of Republicans and maybe even of the Democrats.

EDIT TO CONCLUDE: So from the perspective of this teenager-during-the-80s, the entire Republican Party is "far right". Hope this helps.
