Quote:The real 47 percent: GOP candidate with a Ferrari pays no federal income taxes for third year

Quote:A wealthy Republican candidate who owns a vintage Ferrari and a fighter jet effectively paid no federal income tax for the third year in a row.

Investor Thomas C. Foley hopes to defeat Connecticut’s Democratic governor, Dannel P. Malloy, in the upcoming Nov. 4 election. His campaign released summaries of the candidate’s 2013 federal income tax returns to reporters on Friday, and both the New York Times and the Hartford Courant noted his total federal tax liability was just $673.

“The campaign released his 2010, 2011 and 2012 tax summaries last month; 2013 was the third year in a row that Mr. Foley effectively paid no federal income tax,” the Times reported.

I always thought it was ironic how career politicians talk all this shit about people mooching off the government, but they do not return the checks "big government" writes them.
god is supposed to be imaginary

Rich people already have the money so it's not income at this point. They don't work a traditional job that pays a check each week that is taxed as income.

If he is not paying taxes then it's the fault of the tax laws unless he did something illegal.

Unless the laws are changed rich republicans, democrats, and any other party affiliated person can legally do this.

What the guys owns is irrelevant. What did the guy earn? What was his actual income for those years in which he paid no income tax?

RS only exist to incite hate it seems. They put out irrelevant but emotionally appealing stories and their slack jawed readers swallow it.

Or, you could get off your fucking ass and read the original NY Times story, Woodie. Of course, that would never occur to a shitstain like you.

Quote:The campaign released his 2010, 2011 and 2012 tax summaries last month; 2013 was the third year in a row that Mr. Foley effectively paid no federal income tax. In 2010, his returns showed income of $1.32 million, and $1.1 million in taxable interest.

It didn't take me long to find it at all. 0.49 seconds, as a matter of fact.

Simplify the tax code and he wouldn't be able to do that. No, I'm not expecting that to happen. The non-wealthy citizen can't "lobby" the government, at least not on the same level. But instead of pointing a finger at him, let's point out that he paid a microscopically small amount of tax and did not break the law in doing so.

We can certainly shake our heads at this:
Quote:Both men have accepted public financing for their campaigns.
Looks like he'll be getting that $673 back.
"Well, evolution is a theory. It is also a fact. And facts and theories are different things, not rungs in a hierarchy of increasing certainty. Facts are the world's data. Theories are structures of ideas that explain and interpret facts. Facts don't go away when scientists debate rival theories to explain them. Einstein's theory of gravitation replaced Newton's in this century, but apples didn't suspend themselves in midair, pending the outcome. And humans evolved from ape- like ancestors whether they did so by Darwin's proposed mechanism or by some other yet to be discovered."

It used to be you and your neighbors could gather around, discuss politics, decided that one of you should be a community leader. Then pass around a hat collecting funds to help elect that person. I'm not sure you could do that today without running afoul of campaign finance laws.

Sad what we have become.
