Curious about different views on homosexuality

I, for one, simply cannot find a problem with homosexuals. I've found that most people have formed their negative opinion based on religious reasons. My recent conversation with a friend really got me thinking about the subject. (He opposes gays and is christian.)
He used the "Adam and Eve not Adam and Steve," argument, which is easily argued. Suppose God did place the first couple here on Earth. Alright. One would assume that, essentially, the first people on our planet would have the responsibility of building the population. Having children is physically impossible for two men, so "Adam and Eve" may not have been a stab at gays, but simply means for humanity to start.
He then brought up the two cities, Sodom and Gomora. (Referenced in the movie Year One, I've never seen it and I had no idea what he was talking about.) But my uneducated guess was that the cities were destroyed because of people's misconceptions/hatred for homosexuality, rather than two men or two women being in love. He told me that God destroyed the two cities, which really doesn't mean too much to me.
I'm looking for a non religious reason to hate gays. To which he replied, "Damn... I'll get back to you when I think of one."

You can't ignore the people who disagree and pretend it makes you right.
