Connections that imply a new religion

RE: Connections that imply a new religion
OK, first we would have to define a clear set of hypothetical mechanics, otherwise it's wide open to interpretation and conjecture. However, based purely on the human experience I would say that an eternity of unfettered consciousness would drive one insane, for a start. How would we make this synthetic afterlife one worth existing in?

Quote:I'm trying to prove that given a certain set of circumstances an afterlife is logical.

Logic does not guarantee truth. A logical inference (conclusion) is true if and only if the premise can be proved to be true. A skeptic,I demand any logical argument be supported by credible evidence.

Quote:can theoretically build a means of saving all the signals of a brain and preserve the consciousness inside said brain in another medium.

Positive claim, attracting the burden of of proof. Let's see it.

If arguing the possibility of an afterlife, you are arguing duality.IE something external/independent/transcending the body. Such a thing is logically possible, but as likely as the existence god (s)

If simply arguing preservation of (existing) brainwaves, you are arguing a limited form of immortality, not an afterlife. I also think you are making some unfounded assumptions about the nature of mind and self

Your claims are not supported by evidence, and I think fall under the heading wishful thinking, to be charitable:

Quote:Humankind, if avoiding extinction, can theoretically build a means of traveling between universes.

Again,a positive claim.proof needed. The existence of multi verses has not been established, only proposed. Right now,we can barely travel to Mars. Interstellar travel will only be practical if we solve the problem of faster than light speed. As far as I'm aware, we,are centuries from there, even if it is possible.

IF humanity survives;as Min said, a big 'if. Based on seeing the stupidity which is causing us to make our planet uninhabitable,I think humanity will probably go extinct well before the end of this millennium.I'm assuming there is no world war over dwindling resources or catastrophic pandemic.

Sorry,I've run out of puff. ( I can't type for toffee; long posts take me ages)

I'm going to have to take issue with that last bit Pad. FTL travel won't be a requirement (though it would be incredibly convenient) for practical interstellar travel. Hell, it might be about the most impractical solution available to us even in concept -think of all the energy we would require to move a craft of respectable size FTL, as you have said...if it's even possible. Think of all the miles the human race has covered in our laps around the sun. Perhaps we might set out for some distant place with the understanding that it will be our distant ancestors that eventually arrive. To take this even further, some engineered form of stasis is not even remotely unlikely....we do still carry the genetic sequence that allows for hibernation, just as one example, and the mammalian capacity for limited stasis isn't even impressive set aside our fellow travelers on this particular rock.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

Why? I was speaking of practicality of the kind which allowed mass migration. In my opinion, economics alone preclude such a likelihood possibly for centuries.

The notion of our descendents arriving at a new destination is I think romantic nonsense. As for stasis, I have concerns about atrophy, but really don't know enough to reach an informed opinion.

I'm not really interested in fanciful speculation, but in the pragmatic. A scientific illiterate, I really don't know what is likely in say the next 200 years.--that's assuming our species survives, which is by no means certain.

You have a talent for understatement....I'll grant you that.
