Death Threats After Supporting Evolution

Death Threats After Supporting Evolution
Bill Nye "The Science Guy" states that faith is a good thing, but should not overshadow fact.
After his two minute, very well said and completely respectful video, he received many death threats that went so far as to start a rumor on twitter that he was, in fact, dead. (A rumor that some believe even now.)

(I can't watch the video because my laptop is an elderly ignoramus douche bag that I've dropped on the floor many a time and then attempted to install a ton of fancy crap on it that it really can't handle. But I've read about it and my father told me a bit that he heard on the radio.)

You can't ignore the people who disagree and pretend it makes you right.

I had FB friends post that they were sad he was dead. I doubt they knew the rumor was due to death threats related to his stance on evolution... It amazes me the lengths people will go through to block out reality.

God bless the good old U.S.A. where reality is ignored and stupidity is revered. That's right folks, we're a superpower, and we have nukes.
Even if the open windows of science at first make us shiver after the cozy indoor warmth of traditional humanizing myths, in the end the fresh air brings vigor, and the great spaces have a splendor of their own - Bertrand Russell

How the hell do you even make death threats against Bill Nye?

I mean, come on.

Though I think "faith or science" is a false dichotomy, I want to say how much respect I had for this guy after watching a clip of him on YouTube related to this.

I wanted to use a video that perfectly encapsulates that point, but since I couldn't find the clip I wanted I had to nick this from a post at the Society for Historians of American Foreign Relations (SHAFR.org):

Quote:One of Richard Pryor’s best stories revolved around his wife coming home and catching him with another woman. The woman bolted from the bedroom while Pryor’s wife berated him, as he denied that he’d done anything wrong. Finally, Pryor gave the punch line, as he looked at his wife and asked, “Baby, who you gonna believe? Me or your lyin’ eyes?”
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist.  This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair.  Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second.  That means there's a situation vacant.'

Hail to the chimp!

Incidentally, as is so often the case, I couldn't get the image to load but in this case it really didn't matter. Just seeing the words bush_moron loaded the picture directly to my head.

Bollocks.

Faith and science are innately incompatible. Faith is based on authority. Science is evidence based. EG There are still many thousands of Christians who remain so ignorant and bloody minded that they still argue young earth creationism. The Catholic Church forbids stem cell research and in vitrio fertilisation.

Traditionally, Christians have killed or imprisoned anyone who challenged dogma, including scientists. Today they mainly demonise or excommunicate people who have the audacity to challenge dogma, especially scientists, as they have always done.

Fortunately, few catholics seem to pay much attention to anything they say.
