The Guy Has A Point.

RE: The Guy Has A Point.
Canada and Mexico are the chief suppliers of crude oil to the US along with Saudi Arabia.

There is a major military command in Qatar which we had prior to the Iraq fiasco. Moreover, after 9-11 we abandoned our installations in Saudi Arabia.

There are now less than 200 American military personnel in Iraq mainly involved in Embassy guard duties and weapons sales to Iraq.

Perhaps you do not recall but the main sticking point for renegotiating the treaty to keep US troops in Iraq was Iraq's refusal to waive Iraqi law for them. Of course the country is going to shit but we all knew that was going to happen.

Drama or no drama and no matter how unlikely such justice may be to obtain, I am delighted to hear the suggestion at least. I sit here filled with blood lust for revenge against those fat, smug bastards who took us to war against Iraq. If I was a theist I'd say a prayer for it to happen. Instead I'll just stew in my cynicism and fantasize about getting to be the one who pulls the cord to drop the trap door at their hangings. That would be nice.

I disagree. THAT would have made some sense. This war was about domestic politics. It was supposed to be a trophy war for Dubya and his neo-con cunt buddies.

If the US wanted Iraqi oil, American oil companies would have bought it and continued to manipulate the price as they are doing this very weekend - what some call the "invisible hand of the market" - and passed the cost on the the consumer....just like they always do.

Well, it doesn't work that way. It was a war for oil, but it wasn't done as to loot the oil reserves right away. It was to secure the oil reserves for future use, with a US backed government in place to sell them for cheap when the time comes.

Bullseye.

Another one.

True, yet these are the current suppliers. You ought to have some oil for future use, yes? Not just for cars, but ships, and etc. these all run through oil. The US, and with it, the west secures it's oil supplies, in the middle east.
The war in Afghanistan, another war for an outpost to secure Central Asian oil and gas reserves.

I think it undermines the international court's message when they convict people like Liberia's Charles Taylor for war crimes, yet fail to even seek charges against the Bush administration for the damage they've done.

If Charles Taylor had the kind of money and influence Dubya does, nobody would have dreamed of convicting him.

Mythology, mehmet. Oil goes wherever the price is right. Canada and Mexico charge exactly the same as everyone else and its a hell of a lot easier to get it here. Even if al-Maliki's government survives you can bet your ass we aren't going to be getting "cheap oil" from them. Nor will Europe of East Asia.
