Now if you'd of said afterward, "I'm sorry I made a mistake" I'd of apologised myself for the abuse you got and thought fair enough.

That is the correct(ish) definition of an agnostic/weak/soft atheist, which most of us are. Disbelief is not the same as belief, hence the "dis-" prefix. Got that?

Typical atheists.

You see there are two ways you can go with atheism. On one hand, you may say "Atheism is the only truth, and we need to convert the world to our way of thinking". On the other hand, Atheism can see itself as coexisting with other beliefs, with the focus simply on protecting and preserving the rights and freedoms of atheists and converts to atheism.

I'd rather coexist with religious / theistic folk than try and make them believe (or disbelieve) the things I do. I try to convince people of my positions if I think they're correct, but again, I don't want it to be a situation where people are being forced into believing something. In regards to atheism specifically; I don't know there are no gods, so I don't try to convince people there aren't. What I do try to do (when I can be bothered) is convince others that it makes more sense to reserve judgement on the issue. I also like to point out errors in reasoning where I see them. People did the same for me (although I mostly had my poor reasoning exposed indirectly by reading rather than in discussion) and I guess I'm attempting to return the favour. That's not to say that I'm a flawless reasoner or free of cognitive bias, of course.

Your idea of 'flying off the handle' is incredibly different to mine. I didn't break any rules, I was simply defending myself when accused of something I didn't do. So I called you a few names. I used to have a lot of difficulty with this when I read Dawkins on it but I find it very helpful when I use the analogy of fairies. We don't assert there are no fairies. We just haven't got a belief in their existence. Just like the pink unicorn with black polka dots. We don't assert its non-existence. We just have no belief in the pink unicorn with black polka dots. I think the unicorn analogy makes it clearer.

Pixies, mermaids, unicorns, pegasus, and other mythical creatures. Do you believe they exist? Do you believe they don't exist, or do you refuse to believe they exist?
As in: I have no idea if mermaids exist or not, but ,since there's no evidence of their existence, I assume they don't. I do not believe they exist.
And your point of view (it's close, I admit, but not the same): I believe mermaids don't exist. There's no such thing and anyone who says they exist is of course lying.
