I must read The Bible for school!

Evolution does not give a flying fuck what you believe, G-C. Reality exists with or without you and your ilk.

How do you know this, and since when did Christians measure success by the amount of money earned?
Even if the open windows of science at first make us shiver after the cozy indoor warmth of traditional humanizing myths, in the end the fresh air brings vigor, and the great spaces have a splendor of their own - Bertrand Russell

Ethnic cleansing and anti-Semitism (for centuries in Europe) were around long before Social Darwinism. A quote from the first article reads: "Edward I of England expelled all Jews living in England in 1290. Hundreds of Jewish elders were executed." Selective breeding was also around long before Social Darwinism. The elements of Social Darwinism (and the Holocaust) pre-date it and the theory of evolution.

That doesn't mean I agree with Cinjin, however. I think anything can be dangerous and used to justify really (which I think was your point). I'm all for someone reading the Bible provided they aren't pressured to accept or reject its claims, though I'd prefer they did some other related research before doing either.

Absurd. It's like telling them that you don't need to 'believe' that hemoglobin transports oxygen to your cells, that most NSAIDs work as COX-inhibitors, that human and chimp DNA is about 96% the same, that washing your hands reduce the risk of spreading infections further. It's not about 'believing', it's about knowing and understanding the concept and (overwhelming) evidence.
When I was young, there was a god with infinite power protecting me. Is there anyone else who felt that way? And was sure about it? but the first time I fell in love, I was thrown down - or maybe I broke free - and I bade farewell to God and became human. Now I don't have God's protection, and I walk on the ground without wings, but I don't regret this hardship. I want to live as a person. -Arina Tanemura

That's a very [irony]Christian[/irony] way of looking at success... as a non-capitalist, I don't give a flying doo-dah how much someone earns. It certainly doesn't enter my criteria for whether or not they are a good human being with well-resolved thinking skills.

Well, if you think about it, Is "being wealthy" a good thing or a bad thing? If it's a good thing then god must only make "good people" rich and only bad people poor.

There's an expression that I can't quite bring to mind... involving needles and camels... Tongue

Rather, G-C's god was created by those who loves G-C's money, and saw that G-C richly deserves to be parted from his money.

Well, G-C's "god" allegedly said:

Quote:Matthew 19:16-30

New International Version (NIV)
The Rich and the Kingdom of God

16 Just then a man came up to Jesus and asked, “Teacher, what good thing must I do to get eternal life?”

17 “Why do you ask me about what is good?” Jesus replied. “There is only One who is good. If you want to enter life, keep the commandments.”

18 “Which ones?” he inquired.

Jesus replied, “‘You shall not murder, you shall not commit adultery, you shall not steal, you shall not give false testimony, 19 honor your father and mother,’[a] and ‘love your neighbor as yourself.’

20 “All these I have kept,” the young man said. “What do I still lack?”

21 Jesus answered, “If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.”

22 When the young man heard this, he went away sad, because he had great wealth.

23 Then Jesus said to his disciples, [b]“Truly I tell you, it is hard for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of heaven. 24 Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of God.”

[ Even this an idea borrowed from Greek philosophy which pre-dates "jesus" by centuries ]

But G-C has created his own god in his own image.
