Is that Jesus, along with other religious figures were created out of necessity. Any theist community needs an ideal they attempt aspire to. For instance I believe this to be a subconscious motive to the Jesus myth and the reason he is considered god by Christians. When observed, theist attempt to act and behave as if god(Jesus) would, so if one were do what god(Jesus) would enough time's he would become god(Jesus) like in nature. It's what they want, what they desire and in doing so they would become somebody who is wanted and desired and accepted. Because god(Jesus) has power, if one were to become god(Jesus) like they too would have power.

I will agree that all humans have a severe God complex going on, religious or otherwise, we all want to believe that we are special, and most of us outright refuse to believe otherwise! This is something that not just theists are guilty of, but most atheists as well. But I can't believe that all the fairy tales originated as a means to feed that desire, but rather a means to quell the intrinsic curiosity in all humans (in my opinion). People looked at the stars and wondered "What are those?", they looked at children and thought "Where the hell did the little me come from?" they tried to trace their history, but without written record it only went back so far, and it left them wondering, well how the fuck did we get here? Obviously they didn't have the means to discover evidence based theories at the time, so instead they resorted to something that humans have always been good at, telling stories. What I want to know is at what point the stories stopped being up for debate. When did religion become so based and grounded on fear?

Probably right around the time that the relgious leaders realized there was lots of power to be had for both themselves and the institution.
Even if the open windows of science at first make us shiver after the cozy indoor warmth of traditional humanizing myths, in the end the fresh air brings vigor, and the great spaces have a splendor of their own - Bertrand Russell
