And that point should, I believe put the thread title into a little perspective. Do you value free speech enough to hear that? Do you value free speech enough to blaspheme atheism?
I could care less if some one insults atheism. It's done constantly on Fox 'News'.
There is no such thing as 'blaspheming atheism'. Since atheism has no doctrine, dogma, unassailable beliefs, deities, or sacred things, blasphemy is out of the question.

Even if I find the above distasteful, people are free to to speak as they wish.
You'd believe if you just opened your heart" is a terrible argument for religion. It's basically saying, "If you bias yourself enough, you can convince yourself that this is true." If religion were true, people wouldn't need faith to believe it -- it would be supported by good evidence.

Glasses don't make people nerds but it does make them look slightly more intelligent. Don't know why, just does. The number of times I've spoken to a woman with glasses and thought they looked like they'd have something really intelligent to say just to learn that they don't even need glasses and their depth can be perfectly illustrated by a puddle of urine.
One of my exs springs to mind.
Are you suggesting that attractive girls can't be nerdy? Keep in mind that I spend way too much of my free time playing World of Warcraft and I know final fantasy games better than damn near anyone I know.
Nope, just saying glasses doesn't make it so.

I was very proud of the UK law system a few weeks ago when a farming family were released after having been arrested for shooting burglars with a shotgun after the burglars broke into their home.
In any case, they key about freedom of speech is that you are free to say it. You are not necessarily free from the consequences of saying it. For instance, I support the right of militant Islamic clerics in Britain to preach hate, but I also support the police when they decide to monitor those clerics and their associates for links to terrorism / terrorist plots.
People should be punished for their actions, not for their words.

I think it goes beyond merely saying people are free to speak as they wish.
Truly appreciating controversial, offensive free speech means taking part in it.

So you say there's no reporting of those who oppose free speech? I wonder why that would be.......
Could it be....
Most atheists I know prefer to argue someone into a corner, and then tease them mercilessly with the awful truth. Insulting invective is usually for bush leaguers.(*)
And come to think of it, Taoists are quite fond of making fun of themselves. And there's no Hindu prohibition against blasphemy, graven idols, or saying Kali's name with a shitty attitude.
Whew! Thank God I'm a Hindu girl!
(*) There are exceptions. Dan Barker tends to open his debates with a string of invective guaranteed to curl the toes of even the most progressive theist.

Oh? You don't agree with the draw mohammed day? Wasn't the whole thing started by atheists in an attempt to offend Muslims?

I always saw it as an expression of freedom of speech in the face of an oppressive force that's trying to silence us.
