I don't understand how you can apologize on someone else's behalf. If someone has wronged me they have to apologize for it to be meaningful. And, after some experience in the matter, I only accept apologies in the form of actions - not words.

Eh, many have said what I think about this... "apology", even Crate (on his own particular way). Apologize for your own actions, not for the actions of others.

RE: Apology
Sorry , but I have to throw my penny worth in here, I found the OP actually offensive. An apology for things which he had nothing to do with, is itself arrogance of a large order and also sickening. How would Crates critics feel if I went out and apologised for everthing you did that might be conceived by others as wrong, you I hope would slap my wrist.
Then if the OP is also apologising to us for what it has done to someone else, this has to be questioned at least, has it actualy done something really wrong, and to get out of having to make proper reparations, it is using us so that it can say it said sorry and in its own mind put its actions behind it without addressing the issue. I know that is conjecture, but I find the OP to have exhibited very questionable behaviour, which naturally inclines me towards a negative responce. Even on face value the OP is saying it is better than other christians, and even I have christian friends and I find that offencive.

The joy I get from this forum is the range of responces a poster gets. After all there is no Atheist code of ethics. As such 'that post is too strong for me' is a legitimate response, but 'your post does not reflect well on what we atheists should feel' is more questionable sort of thing to say.
I know my response to this OP is not the most factual, as I have an emotional response to its posts, but those emotions are evolved, and short of other evidence are worth some note at least, so I find Crates represented my view well. and It is only fair to let the OP know what it is dealing with, as it would not be fair to keep information hidden, because we want to present some sort of false a consensus.

Nobody is saying that Crate's displeasure with the OP wasn't justified, however, the manner he went about expressing that displeasure was shallow and juvenile.

but heart felt, at least I read that in it and I like emotions expressed. Yes I know logic is how we progress, but it is also nice sometimes to state where we are.

RE: Apology
Hey Jeff,

Just wanted to take the time to not apologize for myself and on behalf of all the atheists who have ever lived in the history of mankind.

There are a lot of atheists that use the resources of reason and science to bludgeon apologist's terrible arguments. I am one of these people and constantly have to remind myself that most of the time it's a completely futile endeavor but I do it anyway.

I don't apologize if you have been told that God is a figment of your imagination.

I don't apologize if your arguments have been exposed as fallacious.

I don't apologize to you if you have been mocked/looked-down-on because of a belief that you hold that's not based on sound reasoning or good evidence.

Good luck,
-teaearlgreyhot

Agreed. To me it came across a bit of a knee-jerk reaction, the point is that it distracts from the topic at hand. It isn't the first time on this forum that emotional responses give the oposite party an excuse to move the goal posts.

I apologize to any of you that have been told God hates you.

I apologize for to any of you that have been treated as outcasts.

I apologize to any of you who have been mocked/looked-down-on because of a belief that you hold (or don't hold).

I went to a private Christian college (surprise) and a lot of my friends were/are atheist. I haven't treated them as I should have and I want that to change now.

Cheers,

Apologize for being a christian and promise never to do it again. Then we are even.

This is unfortunately is true. But for me; however small their goal is, it does not matter because the defence is useless. Sorry I have distracted you all too long, onward and upward.
